There were stars all over the – seemingly infinite – courts of Wichita Hoops on Saturday. Here is a look at just a few of the standouts from day one!
Albony Bryles | 5-6 PG | Team Griffin 2023 Select / Westmoore | 2023 | @BrylesAlbony
I haven’t seen much of Bryles so far despite her being an Oklahoma player. Boy, was I glad that I got to! She is an absolute scoring star who has the ability to take over a game on the offensive end. On a very good Team Griffin squad, Bryles stands out and that is saying a lot. She is tremendously quick slashing through the defense with very good handles and finishing strong at the rim. She can hit from all three levels and does a good job of involving her teammates with very quick, precise passes all over the floor. Bryles is 5-6 and has long arms and quick hands. She is a very good defender and with time and experience, Bryles will be a big time college prospect – and be added to the Oklahoma 2023 rankings.
Madi Denison Madi Denison 5'11" | PF Minneola | 2023 State KS | 5-11 PF | Western Kansas Elite 2023 / Minneola | 2023 | @DenisonMadi
Denison is an absolute beast down low. Standing with a fellow scout, we saw Denison snatch a high pass into the post, turn in one fluid motion to face the basket and hit a gorgeous fade-away jumper from about 10 feet. We both looked at each other and said “wow.” As her team progressed through the day, she only seemed to get stronger. Her footwork is impeccable and her hustle is almost unmatched. Together with teammate Brooke Strine Brooke Strine 6'0" | C Scott City | 2023 State KS , Denison owns the paint and scores A LOT. She is a good rebounder and can handle the ball as needed. In a warm gym and with multiple games in a short span of time, Denison still showed the ability to get up and down the floor very quickly. Coaches, tune in tomorrow and get a look at Madi and her WKE squad. You won’t regret it.
Alexis Winston | 6-1 C | Tulsa JYD 2023 / Owasso | 2023 | @alexiswinton23
I’ve seen Alexis play a lot over the last few years and I can honestly say that every time I see her she is better and better. She moves incredibly well for a “big” and gets down the floor to be ready to defend the post after a make or miss from by her JYD squad. In today’s games, she showed the ability to move with the ball by rebounding, dribbling, getting her eyes up and hitting the open man. Several times she hit her guard with a pass, then beat her defender down the floor to receive the pass back and finish at the rim. Speaking of finishing at the rim, she is incredibly long and makes layups look laughably easy. She almost hits the backboard with her hand on the finish and is seemingly impossible to block. With several years left to go in club ball and high school, the sky is truly the limit for this long, rangy inside player.
