Girls are working hard outside of team practice to perfect their craft. It’s the year college coaches start to take notice and you start thinking about playing at the next level. Watch out for these players to take their game up a notch this summer.
Angelina Chapple – 43 Hoops Orange
The 6’2 center was hard to stop this weekend and has been playing well all AAU season. Her presence down low on the block is often too much for the defender. She posts up hard and holds her seal very well. She is really good at setting on ball screens and rolling to the hoop for an easy bucket. This weekend I saw her step outside the three-point line and knock down two. If she can continue to shoot outside it will help her team spread the floor and open up the lane for the guards.
Anna Jager – Crossfire 23
Anna plays the forward position for Crossfire. She lets the game come to her and makes good decisions at the right time. On offense she doesn’t post up much, but makes good cuts to the basket. Most of her points come from offensive rebounds where she is good at following the ball off the rim. She has a quick release of the ball after it hits her hands. Jager could average a double-double with the number of offensive rebounds she gets.
Bella Iten – Minnesota Impact
The 5’10 forward is getting better and better each tournament. On offense she is very active. Iten is good at the elbow, where her team plays a triangle high-low. When she catches it there, she squares up every time, giving her the option of either attacking the hoop or dropping a pass down low for her teammate. When she attacks, she does it strong, resulting in a lot of free throw attempts for the forward. When she misses a shot you can almost guarantee she’ll get her own offensive rebound. This weekend she was able to do what she does best and make 11 total free-throws.
Pearla Teko-Folly – 43 Hoops Black
The 6’0 forward from 43 Hoops is a very long and tall, which college coaches love. She is one of those raw athletes that will get better with experience. Teko-Folly is looking for her role on the team still, but she does a lot of little things well. On defense she is always in a defensive stance ready to help her teammates down low. Almost every time down the floor she post up hard and if she is not open, she goes and sets a ball screen to get her teammate open or rolls to the basket. As she gets stronger and works on her craft, she will be able to bang a little bit more down low.
