There were some real stars and prime time performances on the perimeter at the event. Let’s take a look, with a Michigan focus, at some of the players that were productive on the perimeter this weekend.
Kynnedy Brown Kynnedy Brown SF Kalamazoo Central | 2023 State MI (2023, 5-11, UTS Elite 2023, Kalamazoo Central)
Brown played aggressive offense, going hard to the left off the dribble. She had the look of an athletic playmaker that could handle with both hands. Brown played on and off the ball and was crafty on the dribble drive. She uses her length effectively on both ends of the floor.
Emma Smieska Emma Smieska SG Leslie | 2022 State MI (2022, 5-9, MSF Flight 2022, Leslie)
Smieska has had a huge spring on the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit. She’s a perfect example of what a player can accomplish playing in a highly covered circuit like this. Opponents could not give Smieska time to set or shoot from the outside. If they did, it was seemingly automatic. She showed off a really soft touch on a floater in the lane and proved to be a 3 level scorer when she finished athletically at the rim.
Jekiah Mack (2022, 5-9, Michigan Goonies 2022, L’Anse Creuse North)
Mack showed a very athletic game at the Victory Region Finals. She ran the floor really well, effectively filling the wing and making herself available in scoring positions. Mack had good vertical speed and finished through contact and in traffic. She also hit an impressive catch and shoot triple.
Shamya Reid Shamya Reid 5'5" | PG Westfield Prep | 2023 State MI (2023, 5-5, Hype Athletics 2023 Red, Westfield Prep)
Reid is such a dynamic basketball player. She was able to display a catch and shoot 3 to add to her arsenal this weekend. Reid is so tough to stop when she gets going downhill. She has quick hands on defense that helps her force turnovers.
India Respress India Respress SF Chandler Park | 2021 State MI (2021, 5-10, Hype Athletics 2022, Chandler Park Academy)
Respress is that glue player that every great team needs. She rebounds athletically and snapped down rebounds with a purpose all weekend long. Respress, in her typical style, constantly turned defense into offense. She even managed to show off a pure looking catch and shoot 3.
