The home of the Blue Hose hosted a litany of high school teams from South Carolina with North Carolina and Georgia also being represented. A couple of travel teams were also in attendance.
Prep Girls Hoops were in attendance as well to get a better look at the wide array of talent that made the trip to Clinton this past Friday. Let us have a look at even more from last season’s sophomore class that brought their A games with them to the SC Upstate.
Clara Gramling Clara Gramling 5'6" | SG Chapman | 2023 State SC – Chapman HS – Prep Girls Hoops has now seen Gramling and Chapman at back-to-back camps as the Panthers were also one of the many teams on site at last week’s event at Wofford in Spartanburg. Gramling is one who is helps her team greatly with a potent 3-point shot. She has also displayed that she knows how to get out in transition and can get opponents to turn over the ball, creating extra possessions for the Panthers. Along with her sustained excellence as a basketball player, Gramling has also participated in track and field events while with the Panthers as well.
Laila Hankerson Laila Hankerson 5'6" | PG K.O.D. Skills Academy | 2023 NC – Rock Hill HS – Here is another from the class of 2023 that rings a bell to us at Prep Girls Hoops as Hankers and Rock Hill not only took part in last week’s camp at Wofford, but the one before that at Francis Marion. As a two-sport athlete – track and field is the other discipline Hankerson partakes in outside of basketball – one would expect that speed would be a major element of Hankerson’s game as it is. That game is also helped by Hankerson’s ability to sink shots from 3-point land. It is a part of her offensive attributes she will display confidence in as she took a number tries from 3 in one of the Bearcats’ games at Presbyterian vs. Augusta Christian.
Jessica Woods Jessica Woods 5'7" | CG Westwood | 2023 State SC – Westwood HS – The Redhawks were one of several teams on hand at Presbyterian for this past Friday’s camp, but Woods actually made a bit of news herself when she announced via her social media that she received an offer from the Blue Hose. We could see why coach Alaura Sharp would be interested in the rising Westwood sophomore. Woods knows how to distribute the ball and is a tough defender as someone who can up an opposing team’s turnover numbers. She also is very skilled at getting out in transition and will collect her fair share of rebounds.
Jenna Yanity Jenna Yanity 5'4" | CG Lexington | 2023 State SC – Lexington HS – Winning basketball has become the norm at Lexington and 2020-21 was no different. Lexington was one victory shy of the 5A Lower State finals and Yanity was part of that success. Defensively, she will create additional possessions for her team via stealing the ball following an opposing ball handler committing a turnover. She also has no problems assisting the Wildcats’ defensive efforts on the perimeter. Yanity can put points on the board along with a knack for making efficient passes to the other four Lexington players on the floor. Yanity will attack the rim and can take advantage of the contact she draws by hitting her free throws.
