Scouting Report: 17U – Team Knight 17U By Michael Wholey 6/20/21 1:00 PM EST The travel season has reached its halfway point. We continue to check in with teams all around the state with an outlook on their season and a breakdown of some of their top players. This week we take a look at one of the top 17U teams in the state of Florida – Team Knight 17U. [player_tooltip player_id="91561" first="Michiyah" last="Simmons"] - 5’9 - Point Guard Simmons was the heart and of the 16U last year but it out for the 2021 spring/summer travel season with a knee injury. She has has won 3 state championships with Somerset Prep and Blanche Ely. She is a "winner" that possesses elite athleticism and explosiveness. She seems to get to the basket at will and can also knock down the deep ball. Simmons plays with a serious chip on her shoulder and has a refuse to lose effect on the game. [player_tooltip player_id="91563" first="Mya" last="Kone"] - 6’2 – Wing/Forward Kone is looking like one of state’s top wing/forwards as she seems to be close be 100% recovered from her knee injury. Her length and skillset make her a threat from everywhere on the court. Kone has very quick hops and is gifted at blocking shots using both her timing and elite length. Her face up game and her footwork around the basket are excellent. As her frame begins to fill out, [player_tooltip player_id="91563" first="Mya" last="Kone"] will become a force. [player_tooltip player_id="244128" first="Aspen" last="Johnson"] - 5’11 - Forward Aspen is one of the most versatile players in Florida. Aspen lets the game come to her and get hers in the flow of the game from both inside and outside. She is a gifted passer and playmaker as well. She will be able to guard multiple positions at the next level. Aspen is a high IQ kid that plays the game with a ton of joy. [player_tooltip player_id="243930" first="Ashleigh" last="Battle"] (2023) - 5’2 - Point Guard Battle is the ultimate "team first" point guard that does a fantastic job of controlling the tempo . She uses her quickness and change of speeds to get her teammates involve and is also a very capable shooter. What she lacks in size she makes up for with her court presence, basketball IQ, and pesky defense. She is a leader on and off the court and is an extension of the coach on the floor! [player_tooltip player_id="154908" first="Enjulina" last="Gonzalez"] - 5’9 - Combo Guard Gonzalez emerged as one of the leading scorers on Team Knight 17U. Gonzalez, coming off her state championship at Miami Christian, has a smooth game. She is a 5’9 wing with a beautiful stroke and plays with a chip on her shoulder. She is a great athlete and uses her length and athletic ability well on the defensive side of the ball. Her game is super polished. [player_tooltip player_id="248837" first="Markiyah" last="Davis"]- Point Guard - 5’5 Davis a lightning quick point guard with exceptional ball handling skills. She creates well for her teammates but can also create her own shot and knock down the open 3. Davis excels on the defensive side of ball and is a nightmare pressuring the ball handler. She is shifty with the ball in her hands and is exciting to watch! Victoria Aranguren - 5’6 - Guard Victoria is a great piece on the Team Knight 17U team. She is a defensive specialist that prides herself on aggressive, in your face man to man defense. The Miami Christian State Champion does a great job of playing the passing lanes as well. Victoria seems to embrace the role that she has been given and plays with a ton of intensity. She can also knock down the 3-pointer. [player_tooltip player_id="243968" first="Ka’Myra" last="Butler"] - 5’10 - Forward Butler is a strong, versatile wing player that can spread the floor with her perimeter shooting and overpower you on the inside. Her versatility allows her to cover multiple positions. She does a great job offensive rebounding, and is a skillful, unselfish passer. [player_tooltip player_id="91568" first="Zaria" last="Blake"] - 6’0 - Forward Blake’s athletic ability can be spotted from a mile away. At 6’0 tall, her quickness and length make an impact on every game. She is super athletic and excels in the open court with the ball in her hands. Her 3pt shooting is much improved and she finds a way to fill out the stat sheet on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, Blake can cover every position on the court and is uses her combination of quickness and length well to create havoc on opposing teams. We will look to continue to cover news all across the state. Our audience supplies us with some of our best information. Keep us updated on Florida news be emailing me at WholeyPrepHoops@gmail.com or DM’ing me through Twitter or Instagram @WholeyPrepHoops.
