At the Jimmy Garrity Team Camp, a total of five courts were utilized including two at the Terriers’ current home court of Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium – which opened prior to the 2017-18 college basketball season. Courts were also utilized at Benjamin Johnson Arena, Wofford’s previous home.
Prep Girls Hoops made the trek to Spartanburg for the basketball camp that took place this previous Saturday. Here is a look at a number of star players from the class of 2023 fans throughout the Palmetto State should be on the lookout for.
Vivian Bracebridge Vivian Bracebridge 5'6" | SG High Point Academy | 2023 State SC – High Point Academy – Whenever teams play High Point Academy, Vivian has those teams bracing for a deluge of Grizzlies points from behind the arc. If Bracebridge had an open look from downtown, there was a good chance she would take it and a good chance she would make it. On one occasion in a game vs. Asheville School, she was fouled while shooting a trey and made the shot anyway. She and Grizzlies teammate Adiyah Owens Adiyah Owens 5'6" | PG High Point Academy | 2022 State SC showcased stellar ball movement, created double team situations on defense, displayed an ability to take care of the ball and was a vocal leader for her team, particularly on defense.
Laila Hankerson Laila Hankerson 5'6" | PG K.O.D. Skills Academy | 2023 NC – Rock Hill HS – When Hankerson is on the court donning Rock Hill colors, the response from fans is typically thanks(erson). She too had some crucial plays in the Bearcats’ game with Providence Day. She possesses confidence in her 3-point shot and will make opposing ball handlers uncomfortable, increasing chances at steals. Hankerson will also absorb offensive fouls and can give a team a shot blocking component. Hankerson is one of many two-sport athletes within the Palmetto State’s prep sports ranks as she has also participated in track and field, putting her speed to good use in both sports.
Alli Burnette – Woodruff HS – Between Alli and 2025’er Sadie Burnette, Wolverines fans are in for a treat as they get to witness a sister act in action over the next two seasons. She was in the starting five when Woodruff faced St. Joseph’s at the Wofford camp. Burnette can play either the three or the four and showed that as she did plenty of work in the low post. She can get her team rebounds. As is the case with her younger sister, she also now hoops on the travel circuit with Carolina A.C.E.S. She also has previous experience with the junior varsity team at Woodruff.
KaDerrah Beason KaDerrah Beason 5'7" | SF High Point Academy | 2023 State SC – High Point Academy – A wing player, she was in the starting five in High Point Academy’s contest with Asheville School. Beason was very active around the rim with her ability to collect rebounds on both ends of the floor. She also managed to draw contact and get to the line for free throw opportunities. She was an important part of High Point Academy’s 2020-21 success as the Grizzlies were one win shy of a berth in the SCHSL 1A final and earned an individual honor by being named to the 1A SCBCA All-State Team.
