The field was very good with quite a few EYBL programs as well as some of the top independents in the region. Below, I look at Part I of my standouts from the event regardless of class.

– 5’9 G – 2023 – Gig Harbor HS (WA) – Tree of Hope 2023 EYBL
Was impressive with her strength and ability to score the ball. She has a frame that is college ready right now and has a lot of strength. Young can still put some more strength on at the next level making her even more dynamic. She was a really good playmaker with the ball and had very solid poise with it in her hands. Young is a solid shooter

Jaquez has been one of my favorite players so far this summer to watch. I saw her in mid-June for the first time and came away very intrigued. It seemed like she even took her game to another level this past week in Des Moines. She’s a very skilled guard who can score the ball at all three levels. Jaquez is a very athletic guard capable of playing both guard spots on the floor.

– 5’10 PG – 2022 – Orangewood Academy HS (CA) – Cal Storm Team Taurasi 2022
Stines is a really athletic and long point guard who sees the floor very well. She has a really good feel for the game and has the ability to see the floor really well in transition. I think the thing that stood the most to me was her court vision. She was always looking to find her teammates and did not make many forced passes. She has really good composure under pressure.
Chloe Briggs

– 5’11 G – 2023 – Ontario Christian HS (CA) – Cal Storm Team Taurasi 2022
Briggs was another standout on this Cal Storm teams and it is easy to see why she has a ton of high major schools interested in her. She’s a very good guard who plays off-the-ball or on-ball very well. She reads screens well and runs off of them very hard. The lefty has a very smooth stroke and has WNBA range from beyond the arc. Briggs is a prospect who is blossoming brightly this summer.
Marya Hudgins

– 6’0 SG – 2023 – Grandview HS (CO) – Colorado Premier EYBL 2022
Was one of the most active players that I saw at the event. She has a very good build for her style of play as she looks to attack the rim quite often. She has an underrated ability to pass the ball and showed the ability and willingness to make the post entry pass. Hudgins shot the ball really well from the perimeter as well making her one of the biggest threats in the building.

Betts is thought to be one of the top players in the country, if not the best player in the country. She has a ton of size and once she gets the ball it is pretty much going to be a bucket every time. I was really impressed with how well she moved up-and-down the floor for her size and even ran in transition. Defensively, she has the potential to be one of the best shot blockers in the country.
