This one-of-a-kind event featured all-star teams from 17 of Ohio’s counties – coached by many of the Buckeye State’s top HS bench bosses. There was a ton of talent on display at Wooster – in what quickly turned into an extremely competitive atmosphere. Although these players could not lead their teams to the championship game, they “battled” at a high level throughout the day.
Abby Liber Abby Liber 5'11" | PF Avon | 2022 State OH – Avon – Class of 2022
Lorain County’s leading scorer on the day, Abby is a super-athletic combo guard with great length. She defends the 1-4 positions at a high level, while getting deflections, playing the passing lanes and blocking shots – all of which lead to easy baskets for her teammates in transition. Liber has a true jump shot – she elevates over defenders and makes it look easy at times. She is a legit D1 prospect.
Emily Doerman – Lakota West – Class of 2022
At times – it’s easy to fail to appreciate players, because of who they play with or the role that they may have in a really good HS program. It’s possible that Emily Doerman falls into this category. At the Battleground – she showed that she is more than capable of being the lead-dog for a good team. Efficient as a scorer, Doerman is great around the rim as a scorer and rebounder. She is also a very solid playmaker with good court vision. Even though she isn’t the biggest forward, Emily has legit double-double potential each time that she takes the floor.
Sidney Lyons – Mount Vernon – Class of 2022
Lyons was one of many lead guards who impressed at the Buckeye State Battleground. Sidney showed a lightning quick first step – which helped her get into the paint whenever she wanted. A good on-ball defender when she was engaged, Sidney brought energy for her team, which advanced into the Elite 8 after finishing second in the 4-team pool. Lyons can shoot the 3 if her feet is set – she plays with a scorer’s mentality.
Rebekah Conrad – Clear Fork – Class of 2022
It’s impossible to miss Bekah Conrad. The biggest player at the event – Conrad towers over the opposition, instantly drawing attention from opponents, fans and coaches. Despite facing double and triple-teams throughout the day, Conrad carried herself very well – rebounding the ball (keeping it high), scoring on both blocks with nice touch and showing an impressive ability to pass the ball and find open teammates.
Shalen Guilliams Shalen Guilliams 5'9" | CG Loudonville | 2022 State OH – Loudonville – Class of 2022
Guilliams made more 3-pointers than anyone else at the Battleground. She was the only true scoring option on Ashland County’s team – so she was face-guarded and doubled the entire day, yet she showed tremendous range and good poise. Shalen made the right decisions with the basketball when she doubled, often times making great passes in the pick-and-roll or in transition. She forced a number of steals with solid on-ball pressure, as well.
Abby Henegar Abby Henegar 5'8" | SG Doylestown Chippewa | 2023 OH – Chippewa – Class of 2023
Abby plays extremely hard. She literally willed her team to the Final 4 at times – getting 50-50 balls, scoring in transition, grabbing extra possessions for her team on the offensive glass, creating turnovers with defense and finishing through contact for 3-point plays. Henegar has good size for an off-guard, making her an extremely intriguing next-level prospect.
