Grassroots Season Recap: Capitol City Express – Open

Capitol City Express’ Open team brought a nice mix of talent and skill sets to the table this spring and summer. The program was well represented with talented athletes with next level potential. The team had a successful season, in terms of results and exposure. We certainly hope to see them on the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit next spring! <h2>ROSTER</h2> <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="253597" first="Ashley" last="Bower"] (G, Portland)</strong> Battle In The Boro All-Tournament Team Committed to Wayne State University in June <strong>Aylah Smith (G, Pewamo-Westphalia)</strong> Smith is a dangerous shooter from deep. <strong>Breckyn Werner (F, Portland)</strong> Showed an a tough scoring punch in the paint. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="230786" first="Bridget" last="Crombie"] (F, Capitol Homeschool Athletic Program) </strong> Made an immediate impact when playing up an age division and picked up a lot of interest from college coaches. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="281859" first="Ellie" last="Thorburn"] (G, Williamston)</strong> Thorburn proved that her future is very bright and is a player to watch out for. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="277639" first="Erin" last="Sherwood"] (F, Dansville)</strong> Battle In The Boro All-Tournament Team Committed to Trine University in June <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="281858" first="Lena" last="Nihart"] (F, Capitol Homeschool Athletic Program)</strong> Nihart put her name on the map as a rising prospect. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="277667" first="Morgan" last="Bethard"] (F, DeWitt)</strong> Does good work in the paint on both ends. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="277666" first="Sophia" last="Westphal"] (F, Bath)</strong> Good vertical athlete that can score and pass. <h2>RESULTS</h2> Overall spring and summer record:  23-12 April LBI, Warsaw: 2-2 April USJN, Milwaukee: 3-1 May MBA, Grand Rapids:  2-1 May, LBI, Brighton:  2-1 May LBI, Brighton:  1-3 June LBI, Brighton:  2-0 July USJN, Indianapolis:  3-3 July National Exposure Battle of the Boro:  4-1 LBI Summer Sizzler, Grand Rapids:  4-0 <h2>GRASSROOTS SEASON HIGHLIGHTS</h2> - Capitol City Express traveled to Louisville for the Battle of the Boro. They played against elite competition and some high profile clubs. They played at a very high level, proving that they could compete and win against great teams. - Capitol City Express had a terrific July and ended their grassroots season in style. They finished the summer at the LBI Summer Sizzler. The squad rolled to a 4-0 record, turning the heads of scouts and coaches. <h2>COACH’S QUOTE</h2> "Many of these players have been together since 7th grade.
