Those top teams were playing in front of major scouting outlets (Prep Hoops included), college coaches, and major media outlets. So, during this weekend I got the opportunity to see some local travel teams play in a 1-day shootout. Here are some players that stood out from this tournament.
Harlei McCourtney | Post | 5’10 | 2024 | Arkansas Chaos (Acorn High School)
Harlei was one of the best athletes I was able to see play this weekend. This athletic post player is a triple threat on the low block. She can score through contact, find the open cutter or spot-up shooter, and she can defend the post by making it difficult for her opponent to score. Harlei caught a number of errand passes while on the move in transition and on the post. Her energy and intensity was huge for her team.
Sophie Strasner | Wing | 5’7 | 2024 | Arkansas Chaos (Acorn High School)
While watching the Arkansas Chaos team Sophie quickly caught my eye. This wing player is a shooter that can make the spot-up three-pointer. She pressures the ball well and plays with great intensity. You can tell she loves to play the game.
Daisy Dollar | Wing | 5’7 | 2024 | Arkansas Chaos (Acorn High School)
Daisy is another wing for the Arkansas Chaos that played well over the weekend. She does a good job of pushing the ball in transition looking to make the right play. She has a great understanding of what to do in the offense the team runs. Daisy has great patience and cuts with the purpose of trying to score.
Brooklyn Pennington | Wing | 5’7 | 2023 | Arkansas Chaos (Mena High School)
Brooklyn brought an intensity to the game that was unmatched. She made some key plays on both the offense and defense late in the game. She forced a jump ball while applying on-ball pressure and she got a steal under a minute left in the game that led to her scoring the go-ahead layup. She’s also a good athlete that does a good job of finding teammates when attacking off the dribble. Brooklyn also has the ability to post up smaller guards.
Kate Wood | Wing | 5’7 | 2024 | RV Heat Red Premier (Perryville High School)
Kate is a wing player that can shoot the three-pointer if left open. She attacks the basket well and can finish through contact. Kate also displayed the ability to make plays for teammates off the dribble and in transition.
Lexie Schauffler | Wing | 5’6 | RV Heat Red Premier (Coweta High School – Oklahoma)
Schauffler plays a smart game. She often made good decisions with the ball while pushing it in transition or in half-court play. Schauffler has good all-around skills. She can handle it well enough to get to her spots to be effective and she can shoot it.
