With the end of the summer AAU behind us, it is a good time to look at the 2022s who are primed for big seasons when basketball tips off once again.
Here is a look at five rising seniors in the Garden State.
Timaya Lewis-Eutsey -- Life Center Academy
A tough, robust, self-controlled player, Lewis-Eutsey plays above her 5-foot-9 stature.
She proved just how good she is as she put up solid numbers in the truncated 2020-21 campaign, draining 170 points in nine games, good for a 18.9 points per contest average for the Lady Warriors.
Athletic attributes aside, it is her maturity and her ability to clearly articulate herself that sets herself apart from the rest of the hoops pack.
Lewis-Eutsey also plays AAU hoops for Books and Basketball 17U team.
Carly Frohnapfel - Chatham High School
At five-foot-11 and 150-pounds, Frohnapfel’s long arms and strong frame serve her well in the rebounding department as well as on defense.
After two solid seasons at Chatham High School, Frohnapfel enjoyed a productive, though shortened, 2020-21 year, scoring 103 points, grabbing 117 rebounds, rejecting seven shots, and making 22 steals in 15 games. It amounted to an average of 6.9 points, 7.8 boards, and 1.47 thefts per contest.
A natural athlete, Frohnapfel has committed to the University of Denver to play Lacrosse. But that doesn’t mean she will let up on the hardwood.
[player_tooltip player_id="134633" first="Faith" last="Pappas"] -- Pope John XXIII/Team Rio
Pappas is a 5-foot-11 guard who owns a sweet jumper. Already committed to Fordham University, Pappas transferred from Wayne Hills to Pope John XXII to face the best competition possible. She also plays for Team Rio, a top girls AAU outfit.
Therefore, she is not afraid to challenge herself. Moreover, Pappas’ unrelenting commitment to the sport is unmatched. And it shows in her results. She drained 184 points (32-made three-pointers) and grabbed 53 boards in 13 tilts this past season. That is good for a 14.15 ppg and 4.1 rpg average.
Ally Lovisolo -- Blairs Academy/Team Sharp 17U
Lovisolo is a 6-foot-1 unsigned player who was named to the USJN National Championships All-Star team after connecting on 47 percent of her three-point attempts during the July live period with her AAU Team Sharp 17u squad. So, she is a good shooter, no doubt.
Her AAU coach, the legendary Michelle Sharp, describes Lovisolo as a “stretch four who can score inside and out.”
Additionally, she is a relentless player, with basketball in her genes, as her sister played hoops at Williams College (NE) and brother plays at Union College (N.Y.). So, she has been around the game for a long time, and as a result, possesses a high hoops acumen. .
Plus, Lovisolo is an excellent athlete, as she played both soccer and golf as a freshman, and is a top-notch student.
Antonia Bates -- 2022 Rutgers Prep/NewJersey Sparks.
A Rutgers commit, Bates, a long and lean guard, is a true sniper. Once she sets her feet, she is difficult to stop from scoring. Bates averaged 12.4 points per game at Notre Dame in Easton, Penn, as a junior.
Furthermore, the 5-foot-10 player is a stalwart defender, and knows how to find the open girl when the shot is not there.
