Sunday, I attended the annual IGBRR All-Indiana Showcase highlighting several of the state’s top underclassmen, along with a handful of current Seniors who remain uncommitted at this time. There was an hour of stations, followed by a couple of games for each of the showcase teams. Below is a look at five Sophomores (2024) who stood out when I was able to see them in action.

Kennedy has made her mark on the grassroots circuit the last couple of Summers, and a lot of that has to do with physical growth. She’s about two to three inches taller, plus she is noticeably stronger. She is a nice athlete in most directions, she possesses good length, and she plays with a strong motor. She can play as a power forward in the mid-post, because she has the height, physicality, and a nose for the ball, but she has also worked to really develop her perimeter skillset. Her position will come down to how a college coach might use her defensively.

Destini is a nice combination of power and precision. She has a strong, physical frame, she loves to play through contact, and she can battle inside and out-rebound much taller girls. At the same time, she’s a talented athlete in the open floor, she can go off the bounce and use the dribble productively, and she can make plays in transition. She is one of the more physically imposing prospects in Indiana in 2024, but at 5-10 she will likely needed to continue working on her handle and perimeter shot to become a full-time wing.

I felt like every time I looked at Chloey’s court on Saturday, she was making a play for her team. labeled as more of a “shooter” a year ago by several people who introduced her to me, she has done a nice job more recently of handling the ball, running offense, and being a facilitator first. She is still an accurate and dangerous shooter, with some range, but the balance in her game makes her that much more difficult to defend. If she is to keep handling it, the next step for her is to become more of a point guard defensively.

I think too often the general public gets caught up in tangible areas like statistics, that we lose site of other things a player might do well. For example, what most impresses me about Ellery’s game is that she is a very nice ball-handler and an even better passer/facilitator at 6-2, plus she has vision and awareness. Yes, she can shoot the ball with some range, and yes, she can get to the hoop and score. But when she’s not necessarily scoring it, she is still contributing in a number of ways to help her team(s) be successful.

A year ago I felt like Faith had the potential to be one of those kids who just continued growing, gaining strength, and becoming more and more productive. Sure enough, she looks taller, stronger, and much more impactful this Summer, and she was good Sunday afternoon. She is extremely long, fluidly athletic, and even a little bouncy. She has great skill in the mid-post, and she’s even comfortable playing around the arc. As she finishes getting stronger and learning how to use that newfound strength, I’d anticipate her really becoming a multilevel problem.
