South Georgia Spotlight Summer 2021 Part 2

This summer I had the opportunity to watch some top talent in South Georgia at numerous camps and showcases. There were some hidden gems and some players whose stock grew from their summer season. Excellent post and guard play was on display. Here are a few of the players that stood out. [player_tooltip player_id="311549" first="Bailey" last="Gilmore"] I 6’3 I Post I 2023 I Bradwell Institute Gilmore took her game to a whole different level this summer. She grew a few inches and added the deep ball to her game. She is a stretch 5 but can play all 5 positions. Uses her speed on the wing to blow past post defenders. Knows how to finish through contact and at times can go coast to coast on offense. Has a nice mid-range jump shot. She knows how to create her own shot off the dribble and has the quickness that allows her to get to the basket. If you play her for the drive she can knock down the 3 ball consistently. A floor general with great court vision. Plays hard on both ends of the floor. &nbsp; &nbsp; <strong><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-298824 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2021/06/Faith-Norman-rotated-crop-480x316-1623985679-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" />Faith Norman</strong> I 5’6 I PG I 2023 I Effingham County Norman is the energizer bunny that gets her team going. I had the chance to watch her play a few times this summer and she brings an important element to her team. She has great court vision and knows how to get her teammates involved. Can score at all 3 levels. She should help her team contend for a spot in the state playoffs this season. &nbsp; <strong><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-298784 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2021/06/Terrika-Gibson-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" />Terrika Gibson</strong> I 5’9 I SG I 2022 I Statesboro Gibson improved her game so much over the summer. She is playing with a lot more confidence and showed her ability to score at will. Has the ability to take over the game when her team needs a basket. Has the ability to attack the basket hard and finish through contact. Knows how to pressure the ball 94ft. A player that will play a major role for her team this upcoming season. &nbsp; <strong><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-301277 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2021/06/Mahkaylah-Garard-GA-rotated-crop-480x316-1624596874-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" />Makaylah Garard</strong> I 5’3 I PG I 2023 I Charlton County Lefty guard that knows how to slash through the defense. You have to guard her as soon as she crosses half court. Has the ability to shoot the 3 ball from deep. Always moving without the basketball to get her shot off. Needs little space to convert a scoring opportunity. Plays both ends of the floor hard. &nbsp; &nbsp; <img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-298866 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2021/06/Alyssa--150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" />[player_tooltip player_id="247671" first="Alyssa" last="Staten"] I 6’4 I C I 2024 I Statesboro Staten has the ability to score on the block at any given moment. Nice footwork and soft touch around the rim. Uses her length to protect the paint and secure the rebound. Knows how to secure the rebound and outlet to her teammates for the easy basket. Has the ability to step out and shot the short jump shot. &nbsp; &nbsp;
