The 2023 rankings are out! The class of 2023 is primed and ready to become focal points for their ball clubs. The 2023 class in the state of Tennessee, is one of the most underrated classes throughout the PGH Tennessee tenure. It’s not that there aren’t highly touted names, but names of girls who have blossomed quickly over the past two years. These girls may have been on a great team and didn’t get playing time at first, or it took a bit for them to catch up to the speed of the high school game. Now that they have caught up to the speed of the game, these girls have surpassed the level of expectations. The 2023s have a little bit of everything. These girls could be the headline of any article. From the highly-rated kids to the underdogs, this class has it all. With Cori Allen, the #1 kid in the state last year (coming off an impressive USA trial this past spring) heading to Monteverde Academy in Florida, the top spots in the class are there for the taking. The 2023 class is about girls who have been patient, humbled, and put in a lot of sweat equity, to rise to the top of their class. These girls have been through adversity. They say the creme rises to the top, these girls are the cream of the crop in the class of 2023. Look for these girls to catch many accolades, while their path leads them to play big-time college ball one day. [player_tooltip player_id="245287" first="Jada" last="Harrison"] (5’8, PG, Martin Westview)- Straight hooper. Period. This young lady can score the rock in so many ways. She is a heady player who can shoot the ball off the dribble or from a set position. She sees the floor well, distributes crisp passes, and can play the isolation game to perfection. She has a high motor and doesn’t let pressure or double teams phase her. Highly touted, she is a team player willing to do the little things to help her team. Humbled and blessed, she is a fighter who will become a staple in a power 5 program when her HS career is done. [player_tooltip player_id="245283" first="Amari" last="Bonds"] (5’7/ CG/ Union City)- A crafty floor general, who is a leader amongst her team. She is the catalyst for her club, and plays the game with a “dawg mentality.” Equipped with great handles, she can slash through gaps to get to the rim. A scoring threat at all three levels, Amari is always in attack mode. Defensively, she is an anticipator who creates turnovers leading to transition buckets. She’s the pacesetter for her team and will be someone to keep your eye out for as she enters her junior year. [player_tooltip player_id="195902" first="Mallory" last="Collier"] (6’5, C, Bartlett)- She’s back. One of Bluff City’s finest is ready to compete and reclaim being one of the top prospects in the class. This strong and physical post is dominate on the glass. She plays the game at a high motor to where she can get up and down the floor. Great in the pick n’roll game, but even more lethal around the painted area. Back to the basket, face-up, she can get it done either way. Defensively, she is a shot blocker who uses her length to make the painted area look full. A top player who will end up at a big-time program. [player_tooltip player_id="245292" first="Jailyn" last="Banks"] (5’8, CG, MTCS)- My comeback player of the year. This young lady has overcome some adversity to rise up the charts. Jailyn is the epitome of what a ballplayer is. A hard worker, who spends time fine-tuning her game, and adding to her craft. This summer, after sitting out the high school season due to an injury and transferring, she came on strong picking up multiple offers along the way. She is a shifty guard who sees the floor well. A multi-level scorer who can also facilitate. Defensively, she can create turnovers as well as start transition breaks. She’s a feisty player who is a competitor willing to do the little things to help her team win. [player_tooltip player_id="321871" first="Clemisha" last="Prackett"] (6’2, C, West Memphis)- She’s only going to get better. She has a tremendous upside and power 5 schools will be all over her. This athletic post is a defensive juggernaut. She’s a rebounding phenom, a shot-blocker, who is athletic and long. She is quick and has great instincts. Offensively, she has a nice mid-range game and can finish around the rim in the painted area. She cleans up on the offensive boards, hints why she averages a double-double almost every game. With her impressive footwork and uncanny ability to compete and work, this young lady will land somewhere big due to her work ethic and ability to flat out play. [player_tooltip player_id="245309" first="Ni’Kiah" last="Chesterfield"] (6’1, C, Oakland)- Confident. Humbled. Hard- Worker. Ni’kiah has come a long way to be where she is today. This young lady has put in the sweat equity to be one of the top kids in the state for the 2023 class. She has incredible footwork around the painted area. She has a nice mid-range game, where she can utilize her jab step to shoot it or attack either side to get to the rim. She is great in the pick n roll game, where she can finish with contact. Defensively, she stays on the boards. Her athleticism allows her to rotate to protect the rim as a second-line defender. This young lady’s game will continue to grow throughout the course of the rest of her high school playing career. [player_tooltip player_id="245299" first="Emily" last="Monson"]- (6’0, W, Blackman)- Such a tremendous talent who has worked so hard for everything. She is a gym rat who is a multi-level scoring machine. She’s had a great summer where she has stood out on the travel circuit and many big school camps. Her length is her greatest asset, as she can bully people down low, or use her deceptive speed to blow past a defender to pull up for a mid-range. She anticipates well, jumping passing lanes and starting transition breaks. With a title under her belt, she will be one of the catalysts on her team as the Blackman Lady Blaze looks to contend again. [player_tooltip player_id="245291" first="Hadleigh" last="Wharton"] (5’11, CG, Goodpasture)- This 5’11 stud had an outstanding summer and is ready to lead her HS team to title contention this upcoming season. Hadleigh is a can do it all type of player. She can spot up, shoot off the dribble, take it to the hole, and finish against contact. She can see the floor well and handle the ball with poise. She is very unselfish and is always in tune with what’s going on around her. She is a student of the game and can exploit the opponent’s weaknesses. Look for this young lady to take her game to new heights.
