I attended numerous tournaments and showcases this summer and got to see a ton of talented individuals who are now gearing up for their freshman and sophomore seasons of high school ball.
With that in mind, here are six talented underclassmen to be on the lookout for in Texas:
Kaelyn Hamilton Kaelyn Hamilton 5'10" | SF McKinney North | 2024 State TX | 2024 | 5’10” Combo Guard | NTX Lady Elite 2024 | McKinney North HS – I was fortunate enough to catch several of Hamilton’s games this summer, and the No. 3 ranked player in our PGH 2024 rankings never disappointed. Her versatile scoring and surgical passing consistently translated to stellar performances for herself and wins for her team. She is such a complete player on offense. The McKinney North sophomore always seemed to be adding to her collection of skills. I was also impressed with the way she battled through some of her rougher outings, managing to overcome poor starts and unproductive stretches to eventually end the game as the best player on the floor.
Keyera Roseby Keyera Roseby 5'10" | SF Liberty | 2024 State TX | 2024 | 5’10” Small Forward | NTX Lady Elite 2024 | Wylie East HS – Roseby is a terrific two-way prospect who showed that she can do it all at both ends of the court. She can do damage out on the wing by attacking off the dribble or hitting some mid-range jumpers off the dribble, as well as operate down low with excellent post moves and strong finishes through contact. The Wylie East forward also handled the ball well in the open court and was dangerous whenever she got downhill. On defense, she defended multiple positions, produced as a rebounder, and looked comfortable when guarding perimeter and interior players.
Sadie Sanchez Sadie Sanchez 5'6" | PG Randall | 2025 State TX | 2025 | 5’6” Point Guard | Hoop 10 United | Randall HS – Sanchez was nothing short of incredible when I saw her in July. The freshman floor general absolutely picked opposing defenses apart with her outside shooting and playmaking, all while playing up a division. Her vision and accuracy as a passer were spectacular, constantly finding open teammates for high-percentage looks in a variety of circumstances. Sanchez was brilliant as a scorer too, blowing by defenders when driving to the basket and lighting it up when shooting from behind the arc. She has a chance to be a superstar over the next four seasons.
Ashna Tambe Ashna Tambe 5'7" | CG Hockaday | 2024 State TX | 2024 | 5’7” Shooting Guard | Texas Elite 16U 3SSB | Hockaday HS – Tambe was certainly one of the best and most consistent mid-range scorers that I saw this summer. She displayed the ability to knock down shots from a variety of spots in that in-between area, putting the ball in the basket when spotting up as well as when shooting off-balanced jumpers with a hand in her face. Her floaters and runners help round out her game on offense as well. Additionally, she looked good when playing in more of a lead guard role, exhibiting solid ball handling and generous passing.
Ciara Harris | 2024 | 5’10” Small Forward | NTX Lady Elite 2024 | McKinney North HS – Harris showed that she can produce when playing either forward spot. She ran the floor and finished well in transition, while also being a great three-point shooter in catch-and-shoot scenarios, thriving from the corners in particular. That said, Harris’s defense was always the part of her game that wowed me the most. She was engaged and active from start to finish at that end. The sophomore forward had a knack for being disruptive, coming up with steals by getting into passing lanes and pressuring opposing ball handlers. She has the potential to be a really solid three-and-D wing at the next level.
Doniya Hall | 2024 | 5’11” Power Forward/Center | UHE 15U Elite | Plano East HS – Hall possesses excellent size and is extremely skilled for a big. She is deceptively fluid when attacking off the dribble and a crafty finisher on the block with soft touch near the basket. Furthermore, the Plano East sophomore can bury jump shots from mid to long range, making her a nightmare to matchup against. Her rebounding at both ends also stood out. Hall was disciplined about boxing out, did a good job of timing her jumps, and refused to be out-physicaled by her opponents when cleaning the glass.
