I may have missed some because of not having the information in time but I got enough to drop this right here, keep in mind I’m only dropping the upperclassmen
Sarah Scott (Grand Oaks)
Scott really impressed me with her timing to block, alter or deflect shots yet that same timing was important as she rebounded on both ends and finished on putbacks, after contact
[player_tooltip player_id="135377" first="Saija" last="Cleveland"]-6’1 (Langham Creek) 2022
Cleveland is so powerful off the dribble and while she’s under control, her acrobatic finishes make her an "and one" waiting to happen. She loves to defend, baseline to baseline or inside the paint yet watching her play the passing lane and score handling the ball in the open court is always good
Tianna Rhodes-58 (Summer Creek) 2022
Rhodes has the original "pull-up" down pat and watching her drop the midrange over and over is something that attracts coaches at the next level and that, combined with her athleticism will be one of the big keys for her teams run this season
Lauren Vela (Lutheran North)
Vela does a good job of getting positioning inside the paint for rebounding yet she’s also strong and the numerous putbacks, some after contact, solidifies that yet she also showed she could drop the turnaround jumper inside and did a pretty good job on defense as well so she will be key on her teams run
Ashlynn Patrick (Pearland) 2022
Patrick played the passing lane so well on opening day that I just had to come back for a second look and watching her read the floor and go coast to coast was nice yet she also understands how to take defenders off the dribble and score
[player_tooltip player_id="135391" first="Ja’Nyla" last="Kennedy"]-5’10 (North Shore)
Kennedy was mentioned to me by her club coach when she was in middle school and he raved about her potential and I give credit where it’s due, Pete was right yet I also want to credit her for coming back from a knee injury and after a solid club season, watching her drop the midrange effortlessly had me smiling. Yes she rebounds on both ends and scores on putbacks but she will be hard to handle this season
[player_tooltip player_id="267348" first="Molly" last="Beavers"] (Hardin Jefferson) 2023
Beavers has a multitude of things working for her because she has gone from a back to the basket player that scored inside and rebounded well to a player that can actually score from outside, as well as defend on the outside and that’s big she’s not far away from "the magic number" which is 6’0
Aniyah Lewis (Cy Lakes) 2023
Lewis is long and athletic, I’ve mentioned that’s the base for many next level coaches yet what are her intangibles? Well, she goes hard on both ends, one of those "never takes a play off" type of player but she also plays the passing lane well and watching her attack the rim and finish after contact was very nice
Ny’Kyiah Rhodes-Jeffery (Cy Ranch) 2023
Rhodes-Jeffery is one of the most improved players in the state and she’s on the verge of something big. Her explosiveness off the dribble combined with finishing after contact gets a huge YES but her midrange has definitely added something to her game. Her rebounding and defense have always been good, not I’ll say "very good"
