2021 Show-N-Prove: Top Overall Prospects
By Michael Wholey 10/28/21 5:00 PM EST
Kim Davis Powell and John McGraw got together to host the 2021 Show-N-Prove Showcase in Daytona Beach. The two-day event featured some of the state’s top players across the 2022-2028 classes. We were in attendance for both days and will break down the performance of the events top players. We start with the top overall prospects at the event.
Marissa Brown Marissa Brown 6'0" | PF Choctawhatchee | 2022 State FL – 2022
Brown was the top 2022 that I saw at the showcase and is one of the state’s top undecided prospects. She is a strong, physical power forward who is not shy to toss her elbows, hips, or shoulders around and mix it up down low. I liked her energy and communication as she is one of most vocal players at the showcase – consistently bringing her team energy and being a vocal leader. Throughout the weekend, she stepped outside to showcase her face up ability – her 3-point range is not quite there yet but she does have good form. Overall, she is most effective in the paint as she plays well vs contact and typically initiates the contact.
Erica Moon Erica Moon 5'7" | PG St. Francis | 2023 State GA – 2023
Moon continues to impress me every time I see her. One of the summers break out stars, she is a point guard that’s plays cool, calm and collected and does not turn ball over. She has good court vision, is strong and athletic. She has a pass first mentality and wants to set her teammates up for easy baskets and run the team’s offense but has the ability to create her own shot off the dribble and knock down the open 3. Her strong build and consistent work ethic and energy combined with her athleticism make her a good on ball defender on the other side of the ball.
Sophya Barreiro Sophya Barreiro 5'4" | CG Colonial | 2023 State FL – 2023 (Colonial HS)
Second consecutive weekend getting a chance to watch Barreiro, and it was just as enjoyable as the weekend before. If you do not like to watch Barreiro, then you are not a basketball fan. She is a quick, feisty guard with high basketball IQ and excellent leadership skills. She has a smooth outside stroke and plays with a ton of confidence.
Alancia Ramsey Alancia Ramsey 6'0" | PF St Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State FL – 2023 (St. Thomas Aquinas)
Ramsey is a bull in a china shop that you do not want to get in her way! She plays hard, tough, ad physical on both ends of the floor and competes every play. She is a bit undersized but more than makes up for her size with her heart and energy! She fills up a stat sheet with points, rebounds and is always around the ball!
Trinity Turner Trinity Turner 5'7" | CG Dr. Phillips | 2024 State FL – 2024
Turner was the best guard in the gym regardless of class! Throughout the weekend, no one could stop her with ball in her hands. She is an unbelievable 1v1 player who at times looked as if she was bored and in search of a challenge of someone who could at least attempt to keep her out of the paint. She plays with a ton of confidence and is a straight bucket getter who was without a doubt in my opinion the best prospect in the gym!
Shakirah Edwards Shakirah Edwards 5'10" | PG Rutherford | 2024 State FL – 2024
You could make an argument that if Trinity Turner Trinity Turner 5'7" | CG Dr. Phillips | 2024 State FL was not the best prospect in the gym then it was Edwards. She has an athletic, slender build and carries herself very unassumingly on the court. Don’t let her quiet demeanor and personality deceive you as she is an elite athlete that can put the ball in the basket. She plays downhill, pushing the ball at all times, has an explosive first step, excellent open court moves with deep 3 point range. Big time scorer! She holds offers from a number of schools including Florida, Florida State, Miami, Kentucky, Virginia, and Cincinnati.
Asya Lara Barnes – 2025
I got a chance to see Barnes a couple weeks before in Fort Myers and an open gym and left impresses. It was great to see her again as a follow up in a full court setting in 5v5 play. The lefty wing / forward is extremely skilled with excellent shooting form, good basketball IQ, and good court vision. She was one of the top young prospects in the gym showcasing an efficient offensive floor game. She shot a high percentage from the field, shared the ball willingly, and played hard at both ends of the floor.
Jazmine Jones – 2026
Jones is a small, young, skilled guard who has a scorer’s mentality. Most of the times I have had a chance to evaluate her, have been against players that are 2-4 years older than her. While she did play 5v5 in a mixed age group, it has been one of the few settings where I got to see her on the floor with other 2025 and 2026 prospects to compare. Her talent and scoring ability are impressive. She had a four-minute stretch where she went on a 12-0 run by herself. At this point, she has yet to play a high school game – she is a prospect that has to be on evaluators and recruiters list to see. What we do not know is how she will continue to develop, improve, and where her athleticism, strength, and height will be over the next 4 years. A lot of that will dictate her level as a college prospect and her effectiveness on the court.
Ciara Hayes Ciara Hayes 5'5" | PG Faith Christian Academy | 2026 State FL – 2026
Hayes is a skilled and confident guard who plays with a lot of swagger. Jones and Hayes were the top two 2026s that I saw throughout the weekend. The young guard already holds an offer from Ohio State after playing well this summer on the Under Armour circuit for FGB. She has an advanced skill set for her age, very good court awareness and is deceptively athletic. She plays very under control, doing a good job changing speeds. Many players at her age want to go 1,000 miles an hour all the time, and Hayes picks her spots to slow it down as well as when to be explosive attacking the basket.
