As with the other nine teams all reviews are blends of my notes with those of my colleagues Earl Austin and Phillipe McCree.’
Dekeira Clay, 5’9, PG, Wichita South (KS), 2024 – Check these notes from my colleagues: Earl – Plays at one speed and that’s Full Tilt Boogie. Impacts the game at both ends with her motor. Stays in attack mode. Phillipe – Attacks downhill and is deadly in isolation. Looks to score and dish when she drives. Defensively uses her length to get out in passing lanes. She has a solid build and I like how she leads action with her head up. Her perimeter shot was not there until late in the day. Hit the mid-range jumper consistently.
Marissa Covington Marissa Covington 5'10" | SF Piper | 2022 State KS , 5’10″, SF, Piper (KS), 2022 – Covington has a solid build and good transition speed. Has the potential to be a strong rebounder if she can look to box first then jump to the ball.
Meleah Grayson, 6’0″, PF, Lees Summit North (MO), 2022 – Good size, physical. Earl – Very active rebounder who can score in the low post. She also set some solid screens. Had a very strong event. Good hands to catch and finish off the pick and roll game. A talented post player who was very active inside as a rebounder. She set solid screens and scored on the roll down with the ability to catch and finish in traffic. She’s a very willing and capable worker at both ends of the floor.
Morgan Hurla Morgan Hurla 5'6" | CG St. Marys | 2022 State KS , 5’5″, SG, St. Mary’s (KS), 2022 – Hurla showed the ability to hit from the perimeter with range off the catch or and off the dribble move. Finished on either side of the basket with both hands. Quick hands. Hustles.
Jasani Jackson Jasani Jackson 5'7" | SG Heights | 2024 KS , 5’9″, CG, Wichita Heights (KS), 2024 – Phillip saw Jackson as a athletic guard with a high motor. She does need to play lower but she made a couple plays that showed her talents. She made a slick interior bounce pass to an on-the-move Morgan Hurla Morgan Hurla 5'6" | CG St. Marys | 2022 State KS for a score. She also went steal –> cross over –> drive –> nice dish.
Kya Johnson Kya Johnson 5'8" | SF Kickapoo | 2024 State MO , 5’7″, Kickapoo (MO), 2024 – is an outstanding rebounder from the guard position. Able to make the quick, soft pass to the rolling post. Earl – Kya Johnson Great hustle and desire to get to the ball. Also a nice playmaking PG with a good feel for the game
Alana Webb Alana Webb 5'4" | PG Wichita Southeast | 2025 State KS , 5’5″, PG, Wichita Southeast (KS), 2025 – Webb showed a strong ability to navigate traffic with purpose and her head up. Showed strong handles, gear changing ability, and creativity to create scoring opportunities for herself and her teammates. Finishes well with athleticism from both sides of the basket.
Lauren Whelchel Lauren Whelchel 5'10" | SF Rock Hills | 2023 State KS , 5’9″, F, Rock Hills (KS), 2023 – Whelchel has good size and length. Has handles and speed to go end-to-end and finish athletically. Showed quick feet to create scores off the pivot around the basket. Elevates well on the turn around jumper.
