Rubel made her announcement via social media on Oct. 14 as she had a total of nine offers to choose from. Her eight other offers were Adelphi, Austin Peay, Central Missouri, Indiana State, Loyola Maryland, Pittsburg State, Southeast Missouri State and Southern Illinois. She made official visits to Loyola Maryland and SIU last month prior to making her decision.
Lexi will officially ink with the Skyhawks next month during the early Division-I signing period, which begins on Nov. 10 with the final signing day being Nov. 17.
The 6’0″ combo guard will be asked to play the 2 through 4 positions at UT Martin. Rubel is one of the top offensive threats in the Midwest due to her abilities as a three-level scorer, top-notch passer and extraordinary ball handler. She is a phenomenal defender thanks to her court vision as well as her athleticism to mirror anyone she guards. On top of that, Lexi is always one of the top rebounders on her team as she does so on both ends with fluidity.
Lexi was offered by UT Martin during an unofficial visit in August following her final season of playing AAU basketball for SEMO Sizzle. With Rubel leading the way, Sizzle finished 15-2 overall in the July live period and won championships at Run 4 Roses, Battle in the Boro and the Nike TOC Summer Finale (Des Moines, IA).
After SEMO Sizzle took home the American Pharaoh Bracket Championship at Battle in the Boro, Rubel was not only selected to the all-tournament team but also named the Battle in the Boro Tournament MVP. Lexi earned these honors after averaging 14.6 points, eight rebounds and four assists per game, and she went 40-of-44 (90.9%) at the free-throw line while making five 3-pointers through five contests.
Rubel’s younger sister junior Tori Rubel Tori Rubel 6'1" | SF Cape Notre Dame | 2023 State MO , who received an offer from UT Martin but is uncommitted as her recruitment is still open, was also named to the Battle in the Boro All-Tournament Team.
Lexi has proven to be one of the top players in the state ever since her freshman year at Notre Dame, which was when she helped the Bulldogs end a nine-year drought of winning a district championship. Lexi has also helped Notre Dame reach the state quarterfinals each season as the Bulldogs even made the final four for the first time in 10 years her sophomore season along with then freshman Tori.
Last winter as a junior, Lexi averaged 16.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game while shooting 40.9% from the field and 31.5% from beyond the arc. She also joined the 1,000-point club and is on pace to be Notre Dame’s all-time leader in points, rebounds, assists and steals.
Notre Dame won a third-straight district title (longest streak in 17 years) along with claiming back-to-back SEMO Conference Tournament and First State Community Bank Holiday Classic Championships in 2020-21.
Lexi earned all-state honors for the second year in a row and was also named her district’s player of the year for the second time. She also became a three-time all-district and all-conference selection while being voted to the Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team for the second-consecutive year.
Tori was also voted to the Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team while becoming a two-time all-district selection and first-time all-conference honoree. She paced Lexi in both scoring and rebounds with 8.8 points and 4.3 boards per game but led Notre Dame in field goal (56%) and 3-point percentage (41.4%).
