The expo showcased talents and coaches from a variety of different levels ranging from D1, NAIA to NJCAA. Without further adieu let’s dive right in.
Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda 6'2" | SF Sioux Falls Washington | 2022 State SD – Sioux Falls Washington – (6’2/SF/2022) – #1 overall player in South Dakota and D1 athlete commit to the University of Texas, Mwenetanda did whatever she wanted to in the expo. She’s a vigorous young talent that has a ceiling that continues to rise. I could write pages, and articles over Mwenetanda’s skill set, but to sum it all up she’s a 3 level player with a D1 work ethic.
Mallory Miller Mallory Miller 6'4" | C Wolsey-Wessington | 2023 State SD – Aberdeen Christian – (6’4/C/2023) – The number 1 Center in the state of South Dakota and for good reason. Mallory has great positioning down low and showed phenomenal strength in snagging multiple offensive boards for easy put-backs. She’s a player you have to put multiple bodies on and have guards dig low to defender her. Playing back to the basket 1 on 1 is a death sentence and unwinnable. Look for Miller to create a lot of noise this coming season.
Brooklyn Harpe Brooklyn Harpe 6'0" | CG Sioux Falls Washington | 2023 State SD – Sioux Falls Washington – (5’11/CG/2023) – Harpe showed a lot of aggression and versatility on the court. Brooklyn looks to score 8 times out of 10. She has a quick first step and nice handles when it comes to attacking the rim and can create her own shot in the post as well as knock down the trey ball. Brooklyn has all the athletic abilities to become an elite defender and is going to wreak havoc this coming year.
Reese Ross Reese Ross 6'1" | SF St. Thomas More | 2023 State SD – STM – (6’1/SF/2023) – Ross dropped the most points on the day having 24. She used her long athletic build to disrupt passing lanes and ran in transition like a deer. She’s effective on both ends of the court showcasing a solid mid-range jumper and an explosive first step for blowing by her defenders.
Alexus Motley Alexus Motley 5'7" | CG Sioux Falls Washington | 2023 State SD – Sioux Falls Washington– (5’7/CG/2023) – Motley showed what real speed looks like. She possibly is the quickest guard at the expo yet alone in the state. She excels and looks phenomenal in the open court. Alexus looked extremely solid on the defensive end of the court as well. She shows great prowess and positioning in causing turnovers. Motley really caught my eye by being able to finish through and around contact. Overall Motley had a great showing at the expo.
