The Class of 2024 rankings are here. The list compiles a total of 219 prospects in the state. The leading South Florida player is [player_tooltip player_id="219925" first="Janessa" last="Kelley"] at No. 4. [player_tooltip player_id="217667" first="Kayla" last="Nelms"] and [player_tooltip player_id="219927" first="Ka'Zahria" last="Johnson"] are close behind.
Which prospects should be on your focus off the top tier?
Let's have a look...
[player_tooltip player_id="243882" first="Jocelyn" last="Gagnon"] - Calvary Christian Academy (PH. 39)
This is a good spot for Gagnon due to her length and subsequent offensive potential. The 5-foot-10 forward uses her size well to pass and shoot over defenders. Furthermore, Gagnon has good touch on her shot to the 3-point line.
[player_tooltip player_id="221696" first="Annalise" last="Lindsay"] - Miami High (PH. 65)
There's a lot to like about Lindsay when you factor in her production and size. The 5-foot-11 combo guard averaged 7.8 points and 9.4 rebounds (4.5 offensive) for Miami Palmer Trinity. You're doing something right as a freshman if your grabbing nearly ten boards a night. Lindsay has plenty of athleticism to track down rebounds at a high rate. She also runs the floor well for her size. Moreover, her length is a problem on defense. Lindsay's move to Miami High should only vault her game.
[player_tooltip player_id="221843" first="Samantha" last="Vales"] - Miami Christian (PH. 96)
This could be a spot for Vales to move up with opportunity and more production. The 5-foot-2 guard averaged just over six points and 1.4 steals per game. The Class 2A champions lose over 15 points per game from Gabriela Bendeck and another seven from [player_tooltip player_id="243983" first="Ambar" last="Ramirez"]. Granted, [player_tooltip player_id="154908" first="Enjulina" last="Gonzalez"] and [player_tooltip player_id="244206" first="Daimelys" last="Morera"] will take some of that production. It appears Vales is a good on-ball defender with active hands. Any boost in her play will help Miami Christian this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="243881" first="Alysha" last="Fenelus"] - Cardinal Newman (PH. 101)
The Crusaders have two productive players in [player_tooltip player_id="145087" first="Checorey" last="Bouie"] and [player_tooltip player_id="243927" first="Angelina" last="Kohlwaies"]. Its pretty much set in stone what you're getting from those two prospects. Then comes 5-foot-6 guard [player_tooltip player_id="243881" first="Alysha" last="Fenelus"]. Fenelus averaged 4.9 points and 1.2 rebounds across 19 games. Moreover, she hit 18 3-pointers. Her efficiency is where I'd like to see her improve. Fenelus basically shot in the twenties from the floor. The Crusaders will need more stability behind Bouie and Kohlwaies. I think Fenelus could be one of the answers.
[player_tooltip player_id="221703" first="Kaliyah" last="Morales"] - Miami Country Day (PH. 53)
Morales is in an obvious good situation with the Lady Spartans. The 5-foot-7 point guard will look to make her mark around the perimeter alongside a talented roster. Morales has length and athleticism to be a factor this season. A bit more consistency could see her move up in the future.
