Making it into the first ranking of the class is validation of sorts, a well-earned reward for all of the hard work they have put in so far. For some girls, however, the week has been disappointing as they see friends and teammates make the cut while they miss out. The reality is, when you get down into the 40s the selections become very difficult and the difference between the 47th ranked player and one who missed out on this first go-around is minor. When it came down to the final edits, there was plenty of talent left on the cutting room floor. Here are a few near misses you need to know about.
Ryaan Speer – 5’9 guard, Rochester Century
Ryaan has been on fire at the Fall Exclusive demonstrating clearly that she is making fast-track progress in the development of her game. She has length, she’s athletic, she’s fast and she’s feisty. That’s a great combination. She gets to the rim with ease, whether that’s through crafty one-on-one play or sheer physical will. Ryaan has the potential to be an elite player in the class.
Addison Hoof – 5’5 guard, Lester Prairie
The Minnesota Fury guard is one of the quickest players among the 2025s. What she lacks in size she makes up for in speed and intensity. Hoof is a standout defender who can shut down players much bigger and stronger than she is, and she never backs down from a tough assignment. Hoof has high-level skills and a motor that will not stop.
Vanessa Jordan – 5’7 guard, Eden Prairie
A member of the talented North Tartan 2025 Nike squad this summer, Vanessa is a solid contributor on both sides of the ball. She has a quick first step, can get to the rim consistently, and knows how to score. She’s got good court vision and moves the ball efficiently. Seven players from Vanessa’s team made it into our Top 20 and there were times when her contributions were overlooked. Regardless, she is a next-level talent.
Bella Brustuen – 5’10 forward, Blaine
Bella is one of the strongest players in the class, with a big body, a big motor and the ability to change a game with her physical presence. Brustuen isn’t flashy. There’s nothing fancy in the way she goes about her business. She just rebounds the heck out of the basketball, cashes in on put-back opportunities en masse, and uses her footwork to dominate opponents down low. Bella will likely be one of the top 5 power forwards in the class.
Addy Kath – 5’11 forward, Minnewaska
Addy had a good summer with North Tartan Elite but it was her performance during tryout season in August that moved her into the Top 50 conversation. She is long and agile, moves well, and has a lot of nice natural instincts. This really shows up in her rebounding and shot blocking, which is excellent. Offensively she can get to the rim in traffic and loves to attack. Addy has a ways to go but her ceiling is high.
Anna Traschel – 5’7 guard, Prior Lake
Stars Borowicz has dominated the 2025 competition for a long time and this year they won another state championship. The team is loaded, which is why seven players made the Freshmen 50, including three of the top seven. There could easily have been eight. Anna is tough, physical, and skilled. She is a defensive dynamo, a quick, athletic hound dog who can be plugged into pretty much any role and deliver what the coach is looking for.
