2022
Viveon Pierre-5’7 G (Summer Creek)
Pierre fills in many blanks for this talented squad, either by rebounding against taller players, defending opponents top scorers, or just diving for loose balls on the floor, she goes hard yet back to the defense, it helps when you understand how to trap and play the passing lane, both are lost arts yet she can do both as well as score off the dribble and finish after contact
Aaliyah Henderson-5’5 G (Converse Judson)
Henderson has always impressed me with her ability to create her shot under pressure and knock it down but she’s showing she can do it consistently in the clutch. The mid to long-range, even off the dribble, she wants it and she is delivering yet she also is applying some heat on opposing guards defensively
Elaine King-5’11 F/P (Cedar Park)
King is Queen of the “Big Play” for her squad because she does so many things that may not necessarily show up on the stat sheet yet she also fills that up so dropping the jumper, mid to long-range, scoring off the dribble as well as off of putbacks, yes she rebounds on both ends, but she makes things happen with her “Big Plays” like changing the momentum with a defense stop or luring defenders into the trap which leads to turnovers or setting the screen for her teammates
2023
Macie Whitfield-5’9 G (Deer Park)
Whitfield is coming off of an impressive club season where I caught her several times. Yeah I knew she could shoot it but what I learned about her, even more, was her “mental toughness” and seeing her get hurt at Individual Showcase and as I checked her she responded, “oh I’m coming back” and coming back she did with a scoring vengeance so one thing I told her was to be more aggressive off the dribble and she showed that at the event by not only finishing after contact but understanding how to create contact which will turn into making her an “and one” waiting to happen
Branasia Brazleton-5’5 G (North Shore)
Brazleton was blazing with the ball as she took over the 1 after Chrishelle Washington Chrishelle Washington 5'7" | CG North Shore | 2022 State TX pulled something in her arm and she did a good job controlling the tempo as well as handling to heat that was coming at her. She saw the floor well throughout the event and understood how to get hers in the flow
2024
Mychal White-5’4 G (Summer Creek)
White is on the verge of exploding, wait, she already does that off the dribble, but I’m talking about her intangibles like she’s long and athletic, plays the passing lane, and handles the ball under pressure which leads to scoring opps for her team, that’s opportunities, yet she brings something to the table every opportunity she gets. Her timing coupled with her length enables her to block, alter or deflect shots yet her jumper is smooth as she elevates over defenders and while I’m using elevate, that and her body control brings acrobatic finishes
