Japonica James, a 2016 grad also from LeFlore who went on a brilliant career at Troy State; and lastly Daja Woodard, a 2018 grad also from LeFlore, collegiate time at the University of Minnesota and Jackson State, to name a few. Below, I will share with you some players who can follow in these players’ footsteps and feel as if they are poised for a big season.
Madison Dowling Madison Dowling 5'10" | SF Gulf Shores | 2022 State AL | 5-10 PF/C | Gulf Shores
Madison has an excellent post body which makes her a dominant player in the post. Her size and physicalness allow her to be one of the better posts in south Alabama. She was named to numerous post-season teams, including 6A all-state and all-coastal teams, and was named to the Alabama North-South team this summer. Madison can lead the fast break once she has gotten that defensive rebound. Her size makes her presence felt and seen in the post, with a good post-skill-set; one I like is keeping that ball high out of the reach of defenders. She has an offer from Birmingham Southern.
Jaida Gosha Jaida Gosha 5'10" | PF Enterprise | 2022 State AL | 5-10 F | Enterprise
Jaida is a big-body post, which helps her to be dominant in the paint. She is a shot-blocker that is very active in the lane, on both offense and defense. Jaida can finish during fast breaks, which is likely why she averages a double-double on her high school team and is the first player that opposing teams bring up when having to prepare for her squad.
Janiya Labyzon Janiya Labyzon 5'9" | PF Vigor | 2022 State AL | 5-9 F | Vigor
She is 5-9 forward that can run the floor and finish with either hand. Janiya also has the length and body type to be an SF at the next level but aggression to dominate in high shool. She was a member of the North-South All-Star team and was named to the first-team on the 4A and All-Coastal teams.
Dorsey Parker Dorsey Parker 6'1" | SF UMS-Wright | 2022 State AL | 6-1 F | UMS Wright
Dorsey is standing at 6-1; she’s a strong post player who boxes out and gets all rebounds, making her a dominant player on UMS Wright varsity team. Dorsey was selected to be a member of the 2021 South All-Star and earned 2nd team in Class 5A post-season awards. Her offense was another reason for these accomplishments, her ability to seal, get open and make baskets is a tremendous upsize to her game.
Amiyah Rollins Amiyah Rollins 5'10" | SF Dothan | 2022 State AL | 5-10 F | Dothan
This is the athletic one of this group. Amiyah can be a force on the defensive boards, get the rebound and help get the ball down the court. Because of her quickness, she can draw the defense out on her, then put it on the floor and go to the basket. Amiyah also garnered two post-season awards, name 2nd team All-State and 2nd team in Class 7A.
Elyse Hughes Elyse Hughes 5'10" | SF Fairhope | 2022 State AL | 5-10 F | Fairhope
I saw Elysa was at a play day this summer, and I was immediately impressed with her energy. She was like an energizer bunny out there on offense as well as defense. On offense, she took good shots or would just go to the basket. That energy on defense makes it hard for the opposing teams to get into any kind of rhythm. Elysa is a UAH commit.
