Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey is doing its part to get you ready for the upcoming season with the rest of our prospect list profiles of which we’ve kept going since September.
This article continues that as we dive into the 2024 class to look at the No. 35-38 sophomores this season as ranked by the PGH NJ team.
No. 35: Demi Simpson Demi Simpson 6'0" | PF Teaneck | 2024 State NJ – 6-0 PF, Teaneck
Simpson found her success on the defensive side of the ball, averaging 11.2 RPG, 2.2 BPG and just over one steal a game last season for Teaneck.
She was an incredibly dominant forward with great shot-blocking ability, one of the best in the Big North Conference in the spring. While the scoring didn’t come as easily as the rebounding, Simpson made her presence felt in the middle.
The points will come in time and she’s expected to become a double-double machine over the course of her high school career. Simpson got her feet wet as a freshman and now, she’s ready to dominate as a top forward in North Jersey.
No. 36: Layla Grace Giordano Layla Grace Giordano 5'11" | PF Old Tappan | 2024 State NJ – PF, Old Tappan
Giordano played in all eight games as a freshman for Old Tappan alongside her twin sister, Maya. She averaged just under 4.0 PPG in the spring, the fifth-highest scoring average for the Golden Knights.
Entering her sophomore season, Giordano is expected to compete for a starting spot and should be one of the most important forwards in the player rotation that will be utilized.
Her size and agility down on the block is an advantage that she can utilize to really dominate opponents. Giordano should break out within the next two years and more experience and growth on the floor will allow her to do just that.
No. 37: Aiyonna Alexander Aiyonna Alexander SF Winslow | 2024 State NJ – SF/SG, Winslow Township
Alexander had a fantastic freshman season for Winslow, leading the Eagles in rebounding, blocks and steals at 6.25 RPG, 1.1 BPG and 1.8 SPG, respectively.
She was a welcomed addition to a team that struggled mightily in the spring, going 1-11. Having a forward that this team can build off of for the next three years, is a massive positive for Winslow Township.
Coming into this season, Alexander is expected to be one of the top forwards in the Olympic Conference despite the tough competition. If she can keep up her success from the spring, this season is going to be a breakout year.
