The guard play at Ben Teer’s Girls Evaluation Showcase was superb. There are many up-and-coming young 1’s and 2’s in Maine who showed they are some of the best at their position in their respective classes. Below are a few of the talented guards that I saw.Photo: [player_tooltip player_id="299627" first="Juliette" last="Tarsa"]Cali PomerleauCaliPomerleau

- Mt. Arat - 5’6’’ - CG - ’25Pomerleau showed off her prolific shooting Saturday night and was not afraid to fire three-pointers well behind the line. Pomerleau’s marksmanship from outside isn’t surprising, but what I noticed most was her defensive intensity and hustle. I thought Pomerleau outworked everyone. She sprints the floor hard, doesn’t give up on plays, and gets to every 50/50 ball. Pomerleau is a hard player not to be a fan of because of her competitiveness and skill set. - Grey New Gloucester - 5’9’’ - CG - ’25Morelli impressed me right from the start during the ball-handling portion of the showcase. I thought she was one of the most confident players dribbling. Her eyes were up, the ball was on a string, and she was going full speed with limited mistakes. Morelli has a strong off-hand, most noticeable when she passes. There were a few moments throughout the night where Morelli made crisp and accurate passes with her left hand. Like Cali PomerleauCaliPomerleau

, Morelli can shoot from the outside and hustles hard but is a bigger guard who uses her size to impact the offensive glass. Lucy WilesLucyWiles
5'8" | CG Hampden | 2024StateNew E
- Hampden - 5’8’’ - CG - ’24Wiles was the craftiest guard and arguably the most polished offensive guard from Saturday. She is not the biggest, fastest, or most athletic player but the most effective. Wiles sells her ball fakes well and snakes into the paint with ease. She also is a very good finisher in traffic. She is an aggressive scorer who takes full advantage of any mismatch on the wing. Photo: [player_tooltip player_id="299627" first="Juliette" last="Tarsa"]Layla FacchianoLaylaFacchiano
5'6" | CG Edward Little | 2025StateNew E
- Edward Little - 5’7’’ - CG - ’25Saturday being my first time watching Facchiano, I thought she played as well as anyone in the gym. The first thing I noticed was how fast she would get up the floor in transition. Facciano runs the floor hard and wide, getting behind the defense constantly for easy fastbreak points. She had an excellent shooting night from three also. I liked how confident Facciano was behind the line. Her efforts on defense did not go unnoticed either. She dug in, competed, and showed grit and toughness on that side of the ball. Photo: [player_tooltip player_id="299627" first="Juliette" last="Tarsa"]Abby GirouxAbbyGiroux
5'6" | PG Freeport | 2027StateNew E
- Durham Community School - 5’3’’ - PG - ’27Giroux is another exciting ’27 point guard who had the ultimate green light from deep! She is not afraid to shoot and was lights out and did so all night. Giroux has good hands and made some tough catches coming across the lane and finished at the rim consistently. She has a tight handle and had no problem carving up the defense and getting to her spots. Photo: [player_tooltip player_id="299627" first="Juliette" last="Tarsa"]Abigail LeahyAbigailLeahy
6'0" | PF Caribou | 2025StateNew E
- Caribou - SG - 6’0’’ - ’25Leahy is a prospect to keep an eye on because of her size and shooting range. She attempted multiple threes from what felt like 5-8 feet behind the line. Even the ones that missed were good looking confident shots that looked effortless coming off the fingertips of Leahy. I liked Leahy because she didn’t just settle for threes and took advantage of her size down low. She showed good footwork and finishing ability in the post; Leahy was also comfortable putting the ball on the deck and facing up in the high post.
