Saturday night, I traveled to Lewiston, Maine to see the talented prospects who attended Ben Teer’s Girls Evaluation Showcase. I saw many familiar faces but also some athletes for the first time. Below are the 4 that impressed me the most. [player_tooltip player_id="315377" first="Natalie" last="Beaudoin"] - Lewiston - 6’0’’’ - SG - ’24 Beaudoin continues to impress me with her growth as a scorer. She was getting super comfortable with her in-between game and showed good body control and fluidity on her mid-range step-back jumper. Beaudoin is a tough matchup because of her ability to shoot over the top of defenders and create ample separation on her shot attempts. I also thought Beaudoin rebounded the ball well on Saturday. If she can consistently be a significant factor on the glass, it will elevate her stock this winter. [player_tooltip player_id="184116" first="Lizzy" last="Gruber"] - Gardiner - 6’4’’ - PF - ’23 After a dominating volleyball season, Gruber showed up to the Teer Evaluation Showcase in midseason basketball form. Her jump shot looks silky smooth, and Gruber’s mechanics look better than ever. The release is quicker, shooting motion is more fluid, and she was hitting outside shots at an impressive clip. Gruber has developed into a legitimate sniper, and as usual, her post-game was stellar. Her elite footwork and great hands were on display Saturday night. Gruber continues to widen the gap as the best ’23 power forward in New England. [player_tooltip player_id="354207" first="Hope" last="Fontaine"] - Auburn Middle - 5’3’’ - PG - ’27 Fontaine is so good that I still cannot believe she is in 7th grade. I got a good look at her during the 1v1 drills, where Fontaine impressed the most. Going up against players her age and older, the 5’3’’ point guard showed off her extensive offensive repertoire. She can use her quick, strong crossover to get to the rack or mix the defender at the top of the key and hit step-back jumpers. She is a high motor scorer who is relentless and aggressive when the ball is in her hands. [player_tooltip player_id="184126" first="Audrey" last="Mackie"] - Oceanside - 5’8’’ - ’23 Saturday was the best I have ever seen Mackie play. You didn’t have to watch Mackie all Summer and Fall to know that she was in the gym fine-tuning her game. Her three-point precision was unreal, especially off the dribble. I also noticed that she frequently created offense going to her off-hand, making her tougher to defend in the halfcourt. Mackie was efficient from the perimeter but also passed the ball beautifully. I have only known Mackie as a bonafide scorer, but when I saw how improved her playmaking was, making her the #1 prospect from the showcase was an easy call.
