Eliana Sheplee-5’9 G-’24-Rice Lake: Sheplee is a little bit under the radar, mainly because Rice Lake is a bit out of the way of any major city. However, When someone opens up their sophomore season with 37 points, you have to take notice. In the Warriors, 63-59 loss to Osseo-Fairchild, Sheplee scored 29 more points than the next leading scorer on her team. Last night Sheplee had a scoring touch that kept her team in the game all night. Her performance could be a preview of what’s to come from Sheplee.
Imani Warren-G-’23-Milwaukee King: In Milwaukee King’s first game since 2019, junior Imani Warren led the Generals to a 63-38 win over Manitowoc Lincoln. Warren, if she continues, will have had a massive scoring jump from averaging a little over two points as a freshman. For the Generals and Warren, there is still a lot to gather as a team. The junior stepping up consistently will be crucial for her team to compete in the City Conference. The Generals will need to figure out their roles as the season goes on. Last night with Warren stepping up will help with getting through that phase.
Mayah Holzhueter Mayah Holzhueter 5'11" | SF Cambridge | 2022 State WI -5’11 F-’22-Cambridge: Holzhueter equaled Emily La Chapell Emily La Chapell 5'11" | CG Appleton East | 2022 State #57 Nation WI by scoring 40 points in their team’s opening game. I touched earlier on how Holzhueter is an underrated scorer, and by volume, she is one of the best in the state. Right now, to say she’s tied for the state lead in scoring means something. The Blue Jay senior is currently not committed to playing in college anywhere, which is interesting. Holzhueter can play a role on the perimeter at the next level, which I’m confident in saying.
Laney Havlovitz Laney Havlovitz 5'5" | PG Wild Rose | 2023 State WI -5’5 G-’23-Wild Rose: Havlovitz is an interesting case, and Wild Rose as a team for that matter. Havlovitz scoring 21 points on your season opener is noteworthy, but there is a team aspect that is a question mark as well. After losing badly to end the season last year, the Wildcats return more talented with freshman Cali Havlovitz and senior Orria Wood Orria Wood 5'4" | PG Wild Rose | 2022 State WI . The Wildcats, with their talent in Northern Wisconsin, will be worth keeping tabs on.
