It's always great to have a player on the wing that can stretch the defense with their three-point shooting while also having the ability to put the ball on the floor to make plays. In this article I discuss some wing/combo guards who stood out for their respective teams. They showed they could shoot it, attack off the bounce, make plays for others, and defend their position.

Samiyah Smith | CG | 2022 | Rayville

When Samiyah is playing you might as well start guarding her from the parking lot. She hit a few three-pointers well behind the three-point line. Samiyah by far had the most range of anyone in the classic. But she wasn’t just a stand-still spot-up three-point shooter. She could also handle it, make plays for others, and defend.

Desiree Hudson | Wing | 2022 | Captain Shreve

Desiree plays at a good pace. In transition, she can finish off the dribble or fill the lanes and finish off the pass. When finishing she can finish in a variety of ways including her weak hand. In the half-court, if she gets her feet set she’s a threat from behind the three-point line. On defense, she has good hands and anticipates well.

Alayiah Price | Wing | 2025 | West Memphis

Alayiah is a fireball. She plays with passion, energy, and an edge that you can’t teach. Her confidence in herself and her teammates is unmatched. Skill-wise she can make the catch and shoot three-ball and attack the rim hard in transition. Defensively she plays aggressive and applies a lot of pressure on the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id="304697" first="Jaiden" last="Thomas"] | Wing | 2022 | Conway

Jaiden can really stretch the defense with her three-point shooting. You have to keep a defender close to take away the three but she also possesses the ability to put the ball on the floor and make the 1 or 2 dribble pull up. She finished in transition and played the passing lanes well on defense.

Chloe Larry | CG | 2024 | Parkway

Chloe did a really good job of playing poised and under control. She can attack off the dribble and get to the rim or she can spot up and shoot the three-ball. During the first day of the classic, she made her living off the pull-up jumper. Whether it was off the on-ball screen, in transition, or attacking a closeout, she shot the 1 and 2 dribble pull up effortlessly.

[player_tooltip player_id="304739" first="April" last="Edwards"] | CG | 2023 | North Little Rock

When it comes to toughness there are not many players tougher than April. She’s a hard-nosed player that will play tough on both ends of the floor. She applies great pressure on the ball and she goes strong to the basket when attacking off the bounce. She brings a level of energy that gives her team a shot in the arm when needed.

Taylor Day-Davis | Wing | 2025 | Little Rock Central
Taylor is a solid freshman player that does a little bit of everything for her team. She has good size that gives her vision to see the floor and the ability to play through contact. Taylor can grab the defensive rebound, then push it in transition and make the high IQ play with the pass or the finish. Defensively, her length and size give her the ability to pressure the ball and make her opponent uncomfortable.
