2022
Brooke McAnulty-6’3 C (Fort Bend Christian)
McAnulty had me pumped when I thought her name was McNulty from The Wire yet nevertheless, she wound up being a hit. College ready body with agility as well as the ability to score with either hand in the paint or face the basket and drop the 10-12 footer yet she also ran the floor very well and did a good job on the boards, on both ends of the court
Sian Phillips-6’2 PF (Cy Springs)
Phillips is one of the most improved players from freshman to now in Texas and she’s done it at the hardest position, if you heard otherwise you heard wrong but her ability to simply overpower defenders inside the paint will be one of the many reasons Cy Springs will raise some eyebrows this season. She also finished with contact, good hands, and footwork and did a good job of not only rebounding but defending in and outside the paint
Skylar Witt-5’7 SG (Episcopal)
Witt has the right last name because she definitely thinks the game yet, more importantly, she smiles when I yell “Michelle for THREEEE” maybe because she likes it or maybe because she thinks I’m crazy, and either way she is correct because I’m crazy about her ability to create her shot and knock it down under pressure yet her poise under pressure and ability to not only want the shot “in the clutch” but able to knock it down “in the clutch” is big
Ella Smith-5’7 SG (St Agnes)
Smith also does a good job of creating her shot and can drop it, mid to long-range in a variety of ways because she can hit in the set, she can hit in transition with the stop and pop, she can come around screens and drop it but what I really love is how she’s worked on her ability to “catch and shoot” which is just utterly so valuable
2024
Adley Halligan-5’8 CG (St John’s)
Halligan was one of those HIDDEN GEMS I tweeted about that I was clueless about, hey if I don’t have a roster I don’t take a chance on an imposter but if I had seen her somewhere and I didn’t have a roster, I would have asked who she was because she is definitely not an imposter. She’s strong and she goes hard, in fact, she was going for a loose ball and I was inches away and in mind I thought, if she hits me I won’t be able to get up yet her athleticism and body control saved not only the ball but more importantly me. She’s long and athletic, plays the passing lane, scores off the dribble, off the pull-up and defends baseline to baseline
