2022
Angel Nwodu-5’7 G (Fort Bend Christian)
Nwodu attacks the basket relentlessly and her body control enables her to finish, not only after contact but acrobatically and watching her in the open court, you already know it’s coming because she can handle the ball under pressure yet her midrange pull-up gives her options and she also did a good job of rebounding
Gracie Malone (St John’s)
Malone is very athletic and watching her set the defender up to take off the dribble was nice, especially since she finishes strongly with either hand, after contact but one thing I love is watching players “play the passing lane” and she did that as well as played some solid “on the ball ” defense
Endiah Lundy-5’5 PG (Bellaire)
Lundy has always been a joy to watch because she understands something very important, how to run a team and by that, I mean she controls the tempo, knows when and when not to push it, and sets her teammates up for easy attempts yet she also can handle the ball with ease under pressure and zig-zagging by defenders in the open court is always nice, so is her jumper
Madeline Webster-5’7 CG (St Agnes)
Webster plays within herself, doesn’t get fancy yet gets the job done efficiently, and her ability to “see the floor” under pressure and get the ball to the right teammates. She also handles the ball under pressure and not only can she score “in the flow” she also can create her shot and drop the mid to long-range
Olivia Sullivan-PG (Kinkaid)
Sullivan may not be kin to Ed but she puts on a “really good shoo” and I know many are probably clueless to that analogy or better yet, comparison, her ability to \handle the ball and dish off the dribble has always impressed me, going full speed at that yet she also scores off the dribble and drops the jumper from wherever she wants, the step back “ain’t bad either”
2023
D’Austeni Henderson (Cy Springs)
Henderson falls into one of those “never takes a play off” type of players and whether she was applying heat on the ball or forcing players into the trap, she helped create turnover which led to baskets yet her playing the passing lane definitely gave me a jolt but so did watching her set the defender up in the set to attack off the dribble and fin ish
