Prep Girls Hoops was on site at T.L. Hanna for Monday’s games. Here is a look at how the senior class fared.
Somarian Webb Somarian Webb 5'10" | SF Pendleton | 2022 State SC – 2022 – Pendleton HS – Webb consistently has opposing defenses tangled up – not only because of her height as a 5-foot-10 small forward, but because of her athleticism. Nicknamed “Slim,” she will haul in a good number of rebounds and absorbs a good amount of contact which places her at the free throw line. Webb is quick up the floor and will take a good amount of 3-point attempts. She will hustle out to the perimeter to play defense as well. Webb scored 15 points in the Bulldogs’ game with host school T.L. Hanna – including hitting seven of her eight free throw attempts and tallying the first six Bulldogs points of the game.
Justice McCullough – 2022 – Palmetto HS – McCullough is a multi-sport athlete who has also excelled in the track and field realm along with what she has accomplished on the basketball court. She can come up with clutch defensive plays and moves well on the floor even without the ball in her hand. McCullough assists on double teams and is able to take good care of the ball in limiting turnovers. She will drain her 3-point attempts as well – as she did on a couple of occasions in the Mustangs’ Monday afternoon game with Wren. McCullough finished with 13 points – including eight in the second quarter.
Maddie Stone – 2022 – Palmetto HS – As a basketball, softball and volleyball standout, Stone’s college decision was twofold – where would she go and which sport would she focus on. Basketball-wise, she can hit her free throws after she gets fouled and can corral in rebounds. Stone is defensively savvy as she will assist on double teams which can make things uncomfortable for opposing ball carriers. She has no problems taking on tough defensive assignments. Stone scored 11 points in the Mustangs’ game with Wren. She eventually decided to stay in the Upstate and continue wearing red as she committed to North Greenville University to continue her softball career.
Caroline Jones – 2022 – T.L. Hanna HS – The calling card for Jones’ overall game is defense – a basic attribute of the game that can come in handy, especially in close games like the Yellow Jackets’ 40-30 victory over Pendleton. Jones keeps whoever she is guarding near her at all times and puts plenty of emphasis on ensuring her defensive footwork is on point. While being more of a defensive specialist, she can make plays on the offensive side as well. She will shoot from behind the arc and also move the ball around efficiently. Jones finished with six points and was not called for any fouls.
Whitner Bobo – 2022 – Belton-Honea Path HS – Bobo has gained a great deal of athletic experience throughout her career with the Bears – and not only in basketball as she has partaken in soccer as well as track and field while sporting Belton-Honea Path’s colors. Bobo battles for rebounds, wins many of said battles and is accurate as a 3-point shooter. She will absorb a good bit of contact and find herself at the free throw line. After being held off the scoreboard for three quarters by Westside’s stifling defense, she finished with a flurry in the fourth quarter by scoring all six of her points in the Bears’ contest with the Rams.
