I added the 2 Somerset seniors to Honorable Mention because both came in and gave more than serviceable minutes, rebounding as well as scoring on putbacks. Also, I’m leaving off Emma Hubbard-6’0 C (Liberty Hill) because she’s on my All-Tournament 1st team
2022
Tse Nizhoni-Morgan (Somerset)
Nizhoni-Morgan has been a joy to watch throughout her high school career, in fact, I caught her right before entering high school so watching her evolve from just a back to the basket player to one that can now face the basket and score as well as take defenders off the dribble has been nice, so has her improved interior defends as well as the ability to step outside the paint and defend but her rebounding, on both ends as well as running the floor, on both ends, speaks volumes on how she’s worked on her game
Zoe Birdwell-6’2 (Stephenville)
Birdwell uses her size, she’s 74 inches, as well as college-ready frame, to her advantage. She finishes after contact, this includes putbacks because she rebounds on both ends of the court yet she also did a good job of applying pressure on the defensive end. She also changed some shots when players attacked, nice timing
Chalize Cosmas-6’1 (Antonian)
Cosmos is defined as “the universe seen as a well-ordered whole” however Cosmas has a totally different definition as she showed me something I don’t see in this universe as I should, the drop step, which is a lost art, and it created a well ordered whole lot of problems. She also rebounded on both ends and defended
Lauren Olson (Mason)
Olson may not be kin to Jimmy or that Folger’s lady yet she knows something about superpowers as she battled for everything off of the rim, let drop a #THROWBACK hashtag for that, and to speculate things up, she understands how to use her body and finish around the basket and yes, that includes after contact
2024
Chelsea Butler-6’3 (Lovelady)
Butler’s upside is intriguing, she stands 75 inches tall, her body is solid yet so is her form to score around the basket, she also knocks down the free-throw, again with good form yet she finishes after contact with either hand, her college-ready body and her rebounding all spoke volumes about her potential so I’ll be watching
Amaya Urias (Fort Stockton)
Urias showed me two very important things and that was she rebounded, on both ends, and she finished, after contact, yet it was the way she did those two things because she is a BATTLER which deserves #THROWBACK and not being stationary for rebounds always impresses me yet her power and strength enabled her to score after the lick
Honorable Mention
Marisol Jiminez (Somerset)
Kathryn Galindo (Somerset)
