With seniors beginning to commit to playing basketball at the next level, many talented players are still left uncommitted. I have, as of now, a list of four seniors who, as far as I know, are yet to decide on the school they will be playing at next season. I want to highlight some of those players as the year goes on. These players are for coaches at the college level to be aware of because these players can improve a program.
Callie Ziebell-5’6 G-Slinger: Ziebell is coming off of a severe injury that took away most of her junior year, along with her summer campaign. Ziebell constantly makes winning plays for her Slinger team. She does all the things a coach would want she dives on the floor, rip balls away from players before a jump ball is called, and pass up good shots for great shots. Ziebell has incredible range on her jumper. Most of her 3-pointers come from well behind the line, and she hits them at an efficient clip. Although she plays with a talented wing in Hoitink, who gets most of the defense’s attention, Ziebell has played incredibly well. The senior has even led the Owls in scoring on some occasions.
[player_tooltip player_id="132374" first="Mahra" last="Wieman"]-5’10 G/F-Reedsburg: I’ve been a massive fan of [player_tooltip player_id="132374" first="Mahra" last="Wieman"] since I first saw clips of her playing. For Reedsburg, Wieman is an elite scorer. The Beaver has a great feel for the game and understands how to take advantage of opposing defenses. If she has a bigger defender on her, Wieman is more than capable of attacking the rim. Wieman is also a good shooter. The senior can shoot at a standstill or off of a stepback jumper over smaller defenders. Against a quality opponent, Beaver Dam, Wieman had the Golden Beavers out of ideas and finished the game with well over 20 points.
[player_tooltip player_id="262983" first="Mayah" last="Holzhueter"]-5’11 F-Cambridge: Holzhueter made a case for the best opening night performer when she put up 40 points against Palmyra-Eagle. I first saw Holzhueter at the PGH Top 250 Expo in Appleton. I was impressed by her ability to move her feet defensively. That made me think about her ability as a switchable defender. I was not aware of her ability to score in volume, along with efficiency. I think highly of her talent and believe she will be an excellent college scorer when she steps onto a college campus.
[player_tooltip player_id="262974" first="Natalie" last="Gricius"]-5’10 F-Oconomowoc: Gricius was excellent in a matchup with Oregon I attended last week. Everything she does is quick she jumps quick shoots quick, and her first step is quick. Even though the senior Racoon is sneakily fast, she plays at her own pace. I never saw her sped by Oregon defensively, so she will be easy to plug and play at the college level when she’s ready to play. It also helps that she can score from almost anywhere on the floor, at any time.
