Millbrook-Apex Friendship Game Report

In a battle of nationally ranked guard prospects in Apex, the Apex Friendship Patriots defended home court winning 60-44 over the visiting Millbrook Wildcats. While the pair of talented guards played well, other stepped up to the plate for both of these excellent programs. Prep Girls Hoops NC takes a look at the standouts from this high level contest. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="116890" first="Indya" last="Nivar"] (Apex Friendship 2022 guard, Stanford Signee)</strong> Apex Friendship senior guard [player_tooltip player_id="116890" first="Indya" last="Nivar"] gets the job done on both ends of the floor every time she steps on the court. The recent Stanford signee got to her spots, finished well in the lane, and made a number of great reads. She finished with 22 points to lead all scorers in this contest and her stellar play has led to some impressive wins for the Patriots so far. <strong>Lia Anderson (Apex Friendship 2023 forward)</strong> 2023 forward Lia Anderson made a huge difference for the Patriots by running the floor well and getting easy looks in transition. She protected the paint, rebounded well on both ends especially on the offensive glass creating more possessions for her team. Apex Friendship has a number of skilled post players and Anderson will be a key piece to the Patriots puzzle as the season progresses. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="116905" first="Reychel" last="Douglas"] (Millbrook 2023 guard)</strong> Despite being in foul trouble the entire game, [player_tooltip player_id="116905" first="Reychel" last="Douglas"] continued to prove why she’s at the top of the 2023 class in North Carolina. She consistently beat defenders off the dribble, made several midrange jumpers and got to the line by attacking the rim and drawing fouls. Douglas is the engine that makes Millbrook go and she’ll have them near the top of the 4A East contenders list. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="285948" first="Sanai" last="Cole"] (Millbrook 2025 guard)</strong> Despite Douglas fouling out in the second half, it allowed for freshman guard [player_tooltip player_id="285948" first="Sanai" last="Cole"] to step up and fill important roles in the final two quarters. Cole is an exceptional ball handler and created separation off the dribble against any defender that guarded her. Her shot selection was excellent and she took care of the basketball despite good defense from the Patriots.
