A down to the wire battle between the Bridgewater-Raynham Trojans and Newton North Tigers ended dramatically, with the Trojans coming out on top 48-47. A game, decided by a tough drive and finish by ’22 point guard [player_tooltip player_id="288733" first="Dana" last="Possick"], started off slow offensively, with both teams combining for 11 points in the 1st quarter. Below are the games’ standouts. Players of the Game: [player_tooltip player_id="288733" first="Dana" last="Possick"] - B-R - 5’5’’ - PG - ’22 Throughout the entire game, Possick set the tone for the Trojans. With the team struggling in the first half, specifically the first quarter, Possick’s jump-started with her scoring and playmaking. The way she could galvanize a team was on full display also. Her energy, leadership, and relentlessness were contagious to the rest of her Trojan teammates, and the team started to get into a rhythm late in the 2nd quarter. Possick had a good night rebounding, too. She wasn’t afraid to fight down low to secure possessions. The icing on the cake was Possick’s game-winning layup. The poise and discipline Possick showed proved how special a performer she is in crucial moments. The stop-and-go/lefty hesitation move that got the defense off balance created a lane to the basket for the picture-perfect finish off the glass. [player_tooltip player_id="264332" first="Natalia" last="Hall-Rosa"] - B-R - 6’0’’ - SG/SF - ’24 Hall-Rosa started to get going in the 2nd and 3rd period giving the Trojans a nice 1-2 scoring punch between her and Possick. She led the team with 17 points, but what I liked about Hall-Rosa in this game was her effectiveness in the post. This winter, we will see this part of Hall-Rosa’s game more because of her size advantage. She can expose the defense regularly with her back to the basket and faceup game which is steadily improving. Hall-Rosa’s perimeter game has always been smooth, but if she can dominate on the block as well, then it’s game over for real. Bridgewater- Raynham Standout: [player_tooltip player_id="302482" first="Brenna" last="Woodbury"] - 5’5’’ - CG - ’25 Woodbury’s defense is what I immediately noticed when she first entered the game. She was excellent at disrupting Newton North’s offensive flow. Woodbury showed good lateral quickness when guarding shifty Newton North point guard Sophia Beatrice, and made Beatrice pick up her dribble prematurely. In the third period, Woodbury also hit two huge momentum-shifting three-pointers to put Bridgewater-Raynham in the driver’s seat entering the 4th. Newton North Standouts: [player_tooltip player_id="184007" first="Abigail" last="Wright"] - 6’2’’ - SG/SF/PF - ’23 Wright came out of halftime and completely dominated and helped get her team back in the game and a chance to win at the end. She is a force on both sides of the ball and got any shot she wanted inside. What really impressed me about Wright was her cutting and passing. Her offensive IQ was head and shoulders above anyone on the court. Wright’s timely face cuts and passing accuracy led to many huge three-point shots by the Tigers. With a game-high 20 points, Wright made her presence felt and came one possession away from elevating the Tigers to an opening night win. [player_tooltip player_id="363467" first="Allison" last="Bubar"] - 5’9’’ - SG/SF - ’23 Bubar kicked off the third quarter with a couple of threes that ripped the net clean. The first three-pointer was from the corner, and the second was a bomb from well beyond the line. Bubar has effortless range and was not trigger shy. I liked Bubar’s off-ball movement. She did a good job relocating into open space when [player_tooltip player_id="184007" first="Abigail" last="Wright"] was playmaking in the high and low post.
