Sophomore standout Victoria Matulevicius Victoria Matulevicius 5'8" | CG Montini | 2024 State IL has had multiple games where she’s clearly the most aggressive player on the court. Tuesday’s opening conference win (60-46) against St Ignatius was another showing of this. Viki came out hot in the first quarter with 9 points, while finishing off the half with 15. She allocated almost half of her team’s points in the first 16 minutes. (34) The second half was no different, as she stepped off the court with 26. Her ability to finish and maneuver through traffic is tier 1. When Matulevicius drives left.. scorekeepers should be pencil-ready to add 2 points to the book. An overall talent that continues to show why she’s one of the best scorers in that 2024 class.
Glenbrook South and Glenbrook North gave fans their money worth Wednesday night, as Glenbrook South caught an OT win… that was a coin toss from the start. Sidney Rogers Sidney Rogers 5'4" | PG Glenbrook South | 2023 State IL showed the clutch gene from the start of the 4th. She put up 12 of her 17 points in those last 8 minutes. Rogers is known to be a quick but patient guard who can get hot at any moment, and last night that’s what she did. Sid scored a coast-to-coast, crowded paint.. bucket with barely anytime on the clock to give her squad a second chance in OT, which resulted in the win. Rogers is stamping her name and proving why she’s top #10 in the state at her position.
25 in a game is no easy task, and Claire Hyde Claire Hyde 5'6" | CG Wheaton North | 2022 State IL did just that in the 65-50 win against Downers Grove. The win plus the 25 wasn’t the height of Hyde’s night… The senior markswoman from Wheaton North eclipsed the 1000 pt mark for her high school career. Claire is ultra-competitive, highly efficient, and uber-confident.. especially from the arc. Averaging 21 and 40.5% from the three last year… it’s evident that Hyde will continue to be the key offensive piece for her squad.
Gonnella from Fremd has been making her name for herself over this past week. Nicolina Gonnella (Nikki) has shown pose and composure against tough opponents since the beginning of the season. In their Friday night matchup against Fremd, Gonnella put her team in a great position to go home with a 1 point win over the tough Barrington team. Gonella came out and sank 3 free throws within the last 20 seconds to seal the deal. Those free throws were the icing but not the whole cake she served up. She had multiple buckets throughout the game when her team couldn’t put something together and also a huge three-ball late in the 3rd that got them back in the game by 1. The junior is showing up.
Being a scorer is one thing.. but being an efficient scorer is something entirely different. Hannah Laub Hannah Laub 5'11" | CG Waubonsie Valley | 2024 State IL shows efficiency… consistently. In the huge win against Streamwood (73-15), Waubonsie Valley’s, Laub went for 17 pts on 12 attempts (no free throws). Finishing the night with 58% from the field, 75% from the arc. The 5’11 left-handed sophomore is built ford tough. Her ability to contribute at all 3 levels… efficiently is something to take notice of. She’s shooting 42% from the field for the season (50/120). Coaches.. attend a Waubonsie Valley game. Laub is worth the watch and with nothing but time on her side… she’s only getting better.
