If you’re new to ND Basketball the Stutsman County tournament is a 3 games 3 days tourney that consists of Region 3 District 5 and 6 as well Region 4. The tournament this year hosted Carrington, Medina-Pingree-Buchanan, Edgley-Kulm-Montpelier, Napoleon-GS, Griggs-Midkota, Ellendale, South Border and Warwick.
Ryleigh Martin – MPB – (5’9/PF/2022) – Martin was explosive in the first game of the tournament against Ellendale. She willed the Thunder being down 7 back to take the lead and never looked back. Martin finished the game with a double-double in having 17 points, 13 rebounds and even snatched 5 steals.
Lilly Bohl – MPB – (5’5/SG/2023) – Lilly wasn’t as explosive as Martin in the scoring margin only having 6 points, but she played a huge factor on the boards in snagging 12. With some solid defense and a few pick pockets she added extra energy to the Thunder to surpass the pesky Cardinals.
Mataeya Mathern Mataeya Mathern 6'0" | SG Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier | 2024 State ND – EKM – (5’9/SF/2024) – Mathern was anything but shy in the Rebels first game against the Mustangs. She ended the night having 22 points and a handful of rebounds and steals. The Rebels got off to a fast start and continued that same pace. Mathern looked hungrier than last year and posed to be a huge threat for anyone the Rebels would see through the tournament.
Kiara Jangula – EKM – (5’6/SG/2023) – Jangula started the rebels off hot with 2 three pointers back to back. Kiara was really impressive throughout the day ending with 16 points and 4 steals. Jangula’s ability to consistently hit the trey ball will be a real problem for teams to deal with in this extremely diverse Rebels squad.
Teagan Erbele Teagan Erbele 5'9" | PF Napoleon | 2024 State ND – Napoleon-GS – (5’9/PF/2024) – Erbele was impressive last year and continues to impress this year. She had a solid game against Grigg-Midkota dropping 21 points and 9 rebounds. What’s really special about Erbele is that she’s not 6’+, but plays like she’s 6’4 or 6’5. She gobbles anything that doesn’t go in the rim. She has solid strength and knows how to position her body around other opponents reading were the ball will come off the rim at. I expect her to have an amazing sophomore campaign this year.
Sophie Ketterling – Napoleon-GS – (5’5/PG/2023) – Sophie had a solid game against Griggs-Midkota scoring 11 points and having a handful of assists. Her ability to knock down the three was crucial against Griggs’s zone defense and length on the court. If she can continue to contribute in the trey ball category I predict the Imperials could make another Regional run this year in Region 3.
