Last season was a strange one for high school girls basketball programs across the Garden State, but it still produced some fantastic basketball.
With the 2021-22 season starting this week, Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey wanted to break down the best of the best in the conference coming into the new season.
Having already talked about the top forwards in the Colonial, we’ll be talking about the top guards in the conference for this season.
Marquae Richardson-Muse – Senior, Haddon Heights
Richardson-Muse led Haddon Heights in scoring as a junior, just missing out on averaging double-figures on the season as a whole. She’s shown to be a fantastic overall guard in her three years with the Garnets.
She is an aggressive playmaker who knows how to find ways to get to the basket. Her free throw totals reflect well on her ability to cut through traffic and welcome contact at the rim.
As a senior, her role on the team is heightened and this season is a statement season for her moving forward. Expect a heightened level of play and much more swagger from her on the floor.
Kayleigh Armstrong Kayleigh Armstrong 5'7" | PG Haddon Township | 2022 State NJ – Senior, Haddon Township
Armstrong had a down season in the spring for Haddon Township, averaging 7.6 PPG and one made three-pointer a game after double those numbers the year previous.
However, the spring season was a wash for so many players and teams, and not everyone was at their peak. This is a player who knocked down two three-pointers a game as a sophomore and is one of the best pure shooters in the Colonial.
Armstrong is closing in on 100 made three-pointers in her high school career and the full season this winter/spring will give her that opportunity to get back in the groove and dominate on the court.
Bridget Dickson – Sophomore, Sterling
Dickson had a great freshman entrance into the high school game for Sterling, averaging 5.0 PPG in 10 games for the Silver Knights.
Her presence was surely felt on the floor, but Sterling as a team struggled mightly in the spring. With at least some experience under her belt from her freshman year, Dickson really has the ability to shine for this team.
Sterling needs a go-to player for the coming seasons and Dickson is that kind of player. She finishes really well on offense, is a strong defender and already has a great deal of confidence at the point. That is a recipe for success.
JaNazha Clinton – Senior, Woodbury
Clinton now has the help of Alexis Davis Alexis Davis 6'0" | SF Woodbury | 2023 State NJ at her side this season at Woodbury, but last season, the Thundering Herd ran through her as she averaged nearly 12.0 PPG.
She’s proven herself to be a standout player with a knack for rebounding as well as a great ability to take over any game. Clinton plays with a level of confidence and maturity that sets her apart from the crowd.
This season, she’ll be a big part of this Woodbury team and the success she had last season is massively important down the stretch. Clinton is a proven winner and a superstar in the Colonial.
Maggie Campbell – Senior, Haddon Heights
Campbell is one of the best three-point shooters in the conference and the best on Haddon Heights as it showed last season, knocking down 18 over the spring.
With nearly 45 percent of her scoring coming from beyond the arc, Campbell’s production is expected to once again be a near-even split between two-pointers and three-pointers.
However, that perimeter threat is what makes her so effective. The fact that Campbell can shoot three-pointers so well opens up the floor for her teammates and more open looks means more points and hopefully, more wins.
