With week 1 in the book for North Dakota girls basketball let’s recap and look at some of the top performers of the week and how each of these players played a vital role in aiding their programs.
[player_tooltip player_id="100453" first="Laikyn" last="Roney"] - Oakes - (5’9/SF/2023) - Roney had 26 points in Oakes’s dominant win over South Border. She shot 67% from the field and 50% from the free-throw line. Laikyn almost had a triple-double in having 13 rebounds and 9 steals that game. As impressive as her stats were she also had 6 assists. Talk about a monster game!
[player_tooltip player_id="296310" first="Kimberly" last="Tabarez"] - Westhope/Newburg - (5’4/PG/2024) - December 7th marked a historic day for Tabarez as she dropped a career-high of 34 points against Glenburn. Kimberly shot the ball at a whopping 65% from the field, 57% from beyond the arc and 100% from the charity line. Tabarez willed Westhope in an upset win over Glenburn by 3.
Jami Bopp - Sargent County - (5’5/SF/2023) - Bopp had a pop off game against Enderlin ending in a double-double for the undersized forward. Jami had 17 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists that game pushing the bulldogs over the eagles 45-32.
[player_tooltip player_id="211419" first="Ellie" last="Braaten"] - Westhope/Newburg - (5’3/PG/2023) - Braaten had a strong week averaging 14.5 points per contest 9.5 rebounds and nearly 5 assists and steals. Her breakout game came against New Town in dropping 31 points shooting good for 43% from the field. That same game she nearly had a triple-double in having 8 rebounds and 10 steals.
[player_tooltip player_id="252465" first="Kalyn" last="Keller"] - Harvey - (5’7/SF/2022) - Keller has had an exciting week of basketball. Against Towner-Granville-Upham she had 23 points shooting a healthy 60% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc. Keller had a double-double that game in 10 rebounds and added 5 steals to her name as well.
[player_tooltip player_id="316998" first="Abby" last="Cox"] - Oakes - (5’8/SG/2022) - Cox had an explosive game against South Border. She dropped 24 points shooting 43% from the field and added 7 assists and 4 steals to her name.
[player_tooltip player_id="211392" first="Genevieve" last="Gruba"] - Enderlin - (5’9/SG/2023) - Gruba picked up were she left off last year. She’s a hard working guard that plays inside and out just like a stretch 5. She crashes for offensive boards hard and it shows within her stat line. Already this year she has 1 double-double to her name, but could be good for 2 more on top of that just missing the mark by 1-2 rebounds. The first game of the year she dropped 17 points and 12 rebounds. She’s definitely a player to watch for this year.
[player_tooltip player_id="316034" first="Christena" last="Walker"] - Ellendale - (6’1/C/2023) - Walker displayed great athleticism in her first game of the year. A player that didn’t play much last year for the Cardinals has really stepped up in a big way. She dropped 18 points and had 11 rebounds. She’s a dark horse player that should be kept a closer eye on for this season.
