The Plano East Panthers hosted and defeated the South Grand Prairie Warriors 52-44 on Tuesday, and the Frisco Raccoons earned a 62-48 home victory over the Frisco Independence Knights on Friday. Let’s take a look at some of the best guard prospects from this past week’s action.
Jordan Wright | 2022 | 5’7” Point Guard | Frisco HS – Wright loves to play fast and was constantly pushing the tempo in Frisco’s Friday night win. She displayed three-level scoring versatility but was most productive when getting downhill and attacking the basket. The senior guard also showed off her high motor, always hustling to get into passing lanes for steals as well as moving without the ball to provide spacing. Furthermore, she is a shifty ball handler who kept defenders on their heels with her ability to fluidly change speeds and direction. Wright ended the night with 17 points, five rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
Victoria Dixon Victoria Dixon 5'5" | PG South Grand Prairie | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 5’5” Point Guard | South Grand Prairie HS – Dixon is a smart decision maker at the one spot. She operated well when her team had a number advantage in transition, reading the defense and executing in those scenarios. The senior floor general also looked good when passing after dribble penetration. She scored at the rim on a few occasions with solid finishes over taller defenders. Additionally, she came up with timely stops on defense, showing active hands to come away with a pair of steals. It’s also worth noting that Dixon put up 16 points and drilled a trio of threes in a tournament victory over Wagner later in the week.
Jahcelyn Hartfield Jahcelyn Hartfield 5'6" | CG South Grand Prairie | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 5’8” Combo Guard | South Grand Prairie HS – Hartfield was the first player off the bench for SGP on Tuesday and gave her team a spark every time she was inserted into the game. She is a tough prospect who continuously found ways to chip in vs. Plano East, providing scoring, rebounding, passing, and defense for her team. It was her defense that really caught my eye, as the 2022 combo guard was consistently down in a stance and tenaciously guarding opposing players. She even ran back in transition defense to get a chase-down block at one point in the contest.
Rachel Wang | 2023 | 5’5” Combo Guard | Plano East HS – Wang started the game for the Panthers, providing them with an extra ball handler in the absence of star Kayla Cooper Kayla Cooper 5'9" | SG Plano East | 2022 State TX . She handled the ball well on the perimeter, displaying that she can comfortably navigate the floor and deal with on-ball pressure. The Plano East junior is a confident three-point shooter as well, and on a night where both teams struggled from deep, Wang knocked down a big three in the fourth quarter that helped the Panthers extend their lead and escape with a victory. She flipped up a nice-looking runner earlier in the game too.
Joy Madison-Key | 2023 | 5’6” Point Guard | South Grand Prairie HS – Madison-Key is the engine that makes South Grand Prairie’s offense go. She is an extremely unselfish and accurate distributor, displaying good court vision and an excellent feel for the game vs. Plano East. Her ball handling was solid as well, showing that she can get into and out of tight spaces with her dribble. Furthermore, she was great at manipulating defenders with her eyes and set-up moves. As a scorer, the SGP junior got the basket and finished with some crafty takes off the dribble, and also hit a deep triple late in the matchup, ultimately accounting for a team-high 11 points. She is a stud who deserves more attention.
Mackenzie Townsel Mackenzie Townsel 5'7" | PG Frisco | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 5’7” Combo Guard | Frisco HS – Townsel was efficient as a scorer on Friday, casually dropping 15 points in Frisco’s matchup against Frisco Independence. She got it done from all three levels, converting on pull-up jump shots from mid-range and from behind the arc as well as scoring with some fancy finishes at the basket off of dribble penetration moves. The 2023 prospect possesses a smooth style of play and was great about getting to her spots. Beyond that, Townsel exhibited good defensive instincts and made smart gambles that resulted in deflections and forced turnovers.
Ahrianna Morgan | 2023 | Combo Guard | South Grand Prairie HS – Morgan showed that she can shoot the ball on Tuesday by knocking down a long two and a catch-and-shoot three. That said, it was her defense that impressed me the most. She is a gritty defender who was constantly engaged at that end. The SGP guard pressured opposing ball handlers, was sticky when defending away from the ball, and displayed good lateral quickness to stay in front of whoever she was guarding. Furthermore, Morgan did the little things, like rotating and making the appropriate switches when necessary. You could see it in her eyes that she wants to defend, something that we see less and less of from young players.
Audrey Cline | 2024 | 5’6” Shooting Guard | Frisco Independence HS – Cline is yet another player I saw this week that proved she can put up points from all three levels. The sophomore guard is a talented jump shooter who is unbothered by close outs, converting on numerous shots vs. Frisco when there was a hand in her face. She was good from deep, draining a pair of threes from the catch. She also showcased her ability to hit off-balanced jumpers from mid-range with a nice-looking pull-up shot from the baseline while fading out of bounds. Moreover, Cline had a nice package of floaters and runners to go to when she got into the paint, keeping defenders honest and proving she can score from anywhere.
Mylee Guinn | 2025 | 5’11” Combo Guard | Frisco HS – Guinn really poured it on in the second half vs. Frisco Independence, finishing the night with 18 points, nine rebounds, and two steals. She showed off her ability to hit the three ball off the dribble by burying one from the corner after utilizing a gorgeous side-step move to create space for herself. The freshman combo guard was an effective scorer in the post as well. In addition, Guinn handled the ball well on the perimeter and utilized her height to contribute on the defensive glass. This is a skilled 2025 prospect that won’t be flying under the radar for much longer if she continues to play like she did on Friday.
