Continue ReadingAt 11 am the 13th Region’s Jackson County Lady Generals and the Lady Panthers of Cumberland County from the 4th Region will square off in the All “A” Classic State Tournament at McBrayer Arena on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University. That game will be followed later by representatives of the 5th and 2nd Regions Campbellsville’s Lady Eagles and the Lady Lyons of Lyon County respectively.
I have yet to witness the teams from Cumberland County, Lyon County, or Campbellsville so the current write-ups on those players will not be as detailed as those for Jackson County. But with tons of other All “A” content to follow each of those teams will be covered further down the road.
Abby Gilbert – ’25 6’3″/SF – Jackson County
Gilbert is a star in the making averaging a double-double at 16.3 points, 10.9 rebounds (21st in KHSAA), and 61% shooting (9th in KHSAA) and is the 6th leading scorer in this tournament. She is skilled, versatile, tall. and currently unranked on our site, but not after our next update
She is the poster child of the players I want to include in an article later no about the future of the All “A” Classic written about the Freshman, 8th, and 7th-grade players contributing to the various All “A” teams I have seen in the past several weeks. But she may be over-qualified for that article. I would expect to see her, and Jackson County, return to the All “A” State Tournament for a few years to come.
Kenady Ward – ’23 6’4″/C – Jackson County
Ward can be a bit of an enigma who doesn’t perform her best against all matchups. I have seen her score only 2 points and grab 0 rebounds in one game and 23 points, 8 rebounds in another. She is averaging 9.8 points, 8.6 rebounds a game, making 70.8% of her free throws, and shooting 49.2% from the field.
I would expect most matchups she will see in the All “A” will have talent somewhere in between the talent I saw her face in the previous two games I saw her play. Making how she performs in Wednesday’s game of great interest to me.
Kylee Shannon – ’24 5’8″/PF – Jackson County
The frontcourt for the Lady Generals is young and talented and Shannon is no exception. She doesn’t bring the height her teammates do but she still puts up great numbers: 13 points, 8.2 rebounds, making 58.5% of her field goals. Her game compliments those of her teammates very well giving the team good cohesion.
Natalie Carl – ’22 5’5″/PG – Jackson County
Experienced Guards are great assets to have for winning basketball and the Lady Generals have a backcourt duo that I have seen face one of the best pressure defenses in the Commonwealth. Carl is scoring 8.4 points, making 32.5% of her three-pointers, and facilitating the backcourt duties required to help her team average just over 60 points per game. Only two teams in the All “A” can claim that.
Eden Lakes – ’22 5’3″/SG – Jackson County
As a Senior, Lakes is facilitating one of the best offensive attacks in this years’ All “A” and contributing 8.1 points, on 31.6% three-point shooting, and 77.1% free throw shooting. She is steady under pressure and knocks down the open shot when needed while steering the team to a 14-4 record and two of those losses are to teams no one else in this tournament would beat.
Maggie Morgan – ’22 5’4″/F – Cumberland County
The Lady Panthers feature a three-person scoring attack and Morgan is good for 10.9 points of their 46.4 points per game. She also pulls down an average of 9.3 rebounds fully 31% of the team’s 29.9 rebounds per game.
Carly Nettles – ’23 5’6″/F – Cumberland County
Nettles’ 9.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 70.7% free throw shooting percentage makes her team a tough opponent.
Kaylen Franklin – ’22 5’6″/G – Cumberland County
Franklin also puts up about one-quarter of her teams’ points. 10.1 per game.
Briante Gowdy Briante Gowdy 5'5" | SG Campbellsville | 2022 State KY – ’22 5’7″/SG – Campbellsville
Gowdy is the 5th ranked Shooting Guard and 20th ranked player in the class of ’22. She is averaging 15.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. The Lady Eagles are 2 games over .500 for the season after upsetting last season All “A” Champs in the Quarterfinals of the Regional.
Rylee Petett – ’22 5’6″/G – Campbellsville
Petett has been good for 10.8 points, 5.1 rebounds per game, and is shooting 41.2% from three-point range, and making 42.2% of her field goals.
Rose Smith – ’22 5’10″/F – Lyon County
Smith stuffs the stat sheet for the Lady Lyons at 15.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 33.3% three-point shooting and, making 47.9% of her field goals. The team has struggled against the bigger schools this season but has done well against opponents their own size. I am interested in seeing how they fare in this field.
Callista Collins – ’22 5’7″/PF – Lyon County
A double-double of 12.3 points, 10.3 rebounds is what Collins contributes to the success of the team. Those are impressive numbers for a player that is only 5’7″.
