The 22nd annual Battle at the Border occurred at Landrum HS and featured a number of teams from both the girls and boys ranks – eight each to be exact.
Prep Girls Hoops also made the trip up to the home of the Cardinals for Wednesday’s games and took in what was a festive day of basketball. Here is who turned in stellar showings.
Kyndal Haroski Kyndal Haroski 5'8" | SG Riverside | 2026 State SC – 2026 – Riverside HS – Haroski is a textbook example of why class, sometimes, can be overrated – especially in a state as talent-rich as South Carolina. She may be an eighth grader, but she plays the game with experience beyond her years. Early on in the Warriors’ game with Gaffney, she was burying 3-pointers left and right – four triples in the first quarter. At once, she was fouled after draining a trey and she can have a quick release to her shot as well. Haroski is a threat to get teams to turn the ball over and she can go the other way with it in transition. She can get her hand on the ball as a defender, will help out on double teams and is much a distributor of the ball as she is a scorer. She scored 26 points and made all eight of her free throw tries in a 64-53 win.
Leah Page Leah Page 5'9" | CG Gaffney | 2023 State SC – 2023 – Gaffney HS – There is plenty of rage around Gaffney around Page. Gaffney has established itself as one of the teams to watch out for in 5A play and Page is a major contributor to that being the case. She goes all out every play and every game. Page will find driving lanes to the rim and if she misses a shot she is a threat to corral her own rebound. She can get creative at times with her shot selection and will haul in a number of rebounds. Page is also a threat to steal the ball and create transition opportunities for her team. She tallied 22 points in Gaffney’s contest with Riverside.
Savannah Brown Savannah Brown 5'11" | PF Landrum | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Landrum HS – The sophomores simply gave more on Wednesday afternoon for the Cardinals in the team’s game with Boiling Springs HS. Brown had plenty of high-percentage shot opportunities near the rim and she was true on many of those chances. She even got an opportunity at an old-fashioned 3-point play in the fourth quarter and drained a 3-pointer in the opening frame. Brown does work on the boards and will win many of the rebounding battles she gets in. She dropped a total of 19 points – including seven of the nine Landrum scored in the first quarter.
Clara Gramling Clara Gramling 5'6" | SG Chapman | 2023 State SC – 2023 – Chapman HS – There was a bit of rain outside the basketball gym at Landrum HS. There was rain inside the venue as well, courtesy of the Panthers. Gramling drained 5 3-pointers en route to what was an emphatic Panthers victory over Spartanburg Christian to open Wednesday’s day of play. Gramling can get from one end of the floor to the other with the ball and will put in work on the boards. The five treys Gramling buried were roughly half of the 11 triples the Panthers sank as a team. Gramling finished with 18 points to lead all scorers in the game with the Warriors and had zero fouls called against her.
Krislyn Wilder Krislyn Wilder 5'5" | CG Chapman | 2025 State SC – 2025 – Chapman HS – The Panther faithful has been going wild over Wilder. One of the many rising stars among the freshman class in South Carolina girls basketball, Wilder will be on many fan’s radars as her career continues. Wilder was true on a few 3-pointers to start the game when the Panthers opened up a big lead on Spartanburg Christian Academy. She also can get out in transition quickly and will deflect passes on defense to disrupt an opponent’s passing lanes. Wilder tallied 15 points in the Panthers’ victory over the Warriors – 13 of which occurred in the first half of play.
Shyrique Parker Shyrique Parker 5'11" | SF Blacksburg | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Gaffney HS – On a team whose roster is roughly half sophomores and/or eighth graders, it gives an opportunity for a stellar talent such as Parker to find her footing. Parker will collect her fair share of rebounds and can sometimes come from out of nowhere to crash the boards. Those offensive rebounds can, at times, turn into putbacks and possibly to fouls for chances to complete old-fashioned 3-point plays. Parker can quickly recover in case of a ball handling miscue and has an attitude where she can attack the rim if she has the ball in the open floor. She will shoot over multiple defenders and gives her team lots of hustle. Parker scored 15 points in Gaffney’s game with Riverside.
