BCAA “Big 8” Basketball Tournament: Player Preview

The 2022 Broward County Athletic Association basketball tournament will take place at South Plantation High School Wednesday through Saturday. The "Big 8" field consists of the following teams. Quarterfinals begin today. St. Thomas Aquinas vs. Flanagan Cardinal Gibbons vs. Western Blanche Ely vs. Everglades Dillard vs. South Broward [player_tooltip player_id="219936" first="Mariah" last="Mckenzie"] - South Broward 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="219936" first="Mariah" last="Mckenzie"] moves well with or without the ball. The 5-foot-8 combo guard has good ball skill and can score around the rim. McKenzie is a good finisher in traffic and reads the court well. She can be an efficient scorer or effective passer in a halfcourt set. [player_tooltip player_id="156588" first="Khyala" last="Ngodu"]/Ny’keria Flowers - Dillard 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="156588" first="Khyala" last="Ngodu"] is your double-double threat as she averages 17 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. Throw in over three blocks and nearly two steals per game and the 6-foot-2 Ngodu is a powerhouse on both ends. 2025 Ny’Keria Flowers is a smooth guard that is averaging 10.9 points and 4.1 assists per game. She is improving as a passer while being active on defense with 42 steals. 2026 <strong>Teriyah McFadden</strong> is a watch as well. McFadden is a good bet to score 10 points and grab eight rebounds per contest. [player_tooltip player_id="363903" first="Konstantina" last="Mantziori"] - Cardinal Gibbons I think the clear engine for Cardinal Gibbons is [player_tooltip player_id="363903" first="Konstantina" last="Mantziori"]. The 5-foot-6 guard handles the ball very well and can slice through a defense. Moreover, Mantizori is effective off dribble penetration to make a quick pass. She can play and is only getting better as a scorer. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="248419" first="Chloe" last="Celler"] is a three-level scorer with range. The 5-foot-9 wing does a nice job scoring off the dribble from the perimeter. [player_tooltip player_id="151282" first="Alancia" last="Ramsey"]  - St. Thomas Aquinas You have a lot of athleticism at guard or wing when it comes to the Raiders. That is why I think 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="151282" first="Alancia" last="Ramsey"] is key. The 6-foot post is a routine double-double. She can also move which makes her size even more of a problem to defend. I think Ramsey is a player you have to be aware of whether she is directly involved in a play or not. [player_tooltip player_id="153108" first="Taja" last="Stephens"] - Western 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="153108" first="Taja" last="Stephens"] is a player that can score 15-20+ points on any given night. She has guard versatility and can score in transition. Moreover, her length at 5-foot-8 is a help on defense. [player_tooltip player_id="91561" first="Michiyah" last="Simmons"] - Blanche Ely 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="91561" first="Michiyah" last="Simmons"] is an all-purpose guard for the Lady Tigers. The 5-foot-8 guard recently scored 31 points and hit seven 3-pointers against Mater Lakes Academy. Simmons also grabbed 14 boards.
