Florida’s Statistical Leaders: Scoring By Michael Wholey 1/31/21 9:00 AM EST Maxpreps tracks the state’s statistical leaders based on what is inputted into the system by a coach or program director. With the regular season wrapping up and District and Regional playoffs starting up, we take a look at the leaders in points per game in Florida. [player_tooltip player_id="91651" first="Taliah" last="Scott"] (St. Johns Country Day) – Class of 2023 – Guard Average Per Game: 34.2 Total Points: 582 Games Played: 17 When Scott announced her transfer to St. Johns Country Day, it was assumed her scoring numbers would go way up. Well, the talented 5’9 guard has done nothing but drop buckets all season averaging 34.2 points per game helping lead St. Johns Country Day to a 14-3 record. The talent level of the opponent has not been as strong as last season’s schedule while she was at Oakleaf but the numbers don’t lie, as she has scored 50 points twice and 40+ points five times! The University of Arkansas verbal commit still has one more season and will continue to challenge the record books in overall points and points per game if she keeps this pace! [player_tooltip player_id="166167" first="Arianna" last="Mosley"] (Tampa Prep) – Class of 2023 – Guard Average Per Game: 31.6 Total Points: 569 Games Played: 18 Mosley has been a one woman show for most of her prep career at Tampa Prep. She is averaging 31.6 points per game and has scored in double digits 17 of her teams 18 points. She has twice hit the 40-point mark, dropping 41 points vs Bartow and a season high 42 versus Sickles in a 63-46 win on December 18. Sara Williams (All Saints Academy) – Class of 2023 Average Per Game: 27.9 Total Points: 418 Games Played: 15 All Saints Academy is 13-2 and Williams is a big part of the at averaging 27.9 points per game. Williams shows up when things matter the most, as All Saints is 6-0 in games decided by single digits and Williams averages 23.6 points per game in the close contests. Her season high game vs Four Corners where she scored 45 points on 15 made field goals after dropping 44 points vs Genesis Prep the previous week on 20 made field goals! Lorianys Castanon Cruz (Mulberry) – Class of 2025 Average Per Game: 27.7 Total Points: 415 Games Played: 15 Castanon Cruz is the youngest player on the list averaging 27.7 points per game in her Freshman season. It has been tough sledding for Mulbery as they are just 5-12 on the season and Castanon Cruz is doing all she can do lead them to the victory circle! She has been a consistent scoring threat throughout the season and has scored 20 or more points in 12 of the teams 15 games including a season high 41 points versus Winter Haven Christian on January 18. [player_tooltip player_id="166162" first="Kendra" last="Bentley"] (Santaluces) – Class of 2023 - Guard Average Per Game: 26.9 Total Points: 538 Games Played: 20 Bentley hit the career 1,000 point mark this past week having scored more than half those points this season dropping 538 total points on the season and averaging 26.9 points per game. She is shooting an impressive 51% from the field, including a 32 point performance on 15/18 from the field, shooting 83% vs Forest Hill on January 17 and shooting 60% or better vs McArthur, Nova, Pahokee, and Atlantic! [player_tooltip player_id="353631" first="Brianna" last="Erickson"] (Pinellas Park) – Class of 2022 – Guard Average Per Game: 26.2 Total Points: 236 Games Played: 9 Erickson and Pinellas Park have played a reduced schedule due to COVID, playing less than half the game’s most other teams have played. But Erickson has made the most of those 9 games, averaging 26.2 points per game and is really heating up as of late. In her last five games, she is averaging 33.2 points per game including a game high 41 points vs St. Petersburg in January! Emily Gamon (Varlea) – Class of 2024 – Guard Average Per Game: 26.2 Total Points: 419 Games Played: 16 Gamon has hit the double-digit mark in all 16 of Varlea’s game this season helping them to an 8-8 record. It appears the key to the win column for Varlea is Gamon’s scoring ability as she averages 21.2 points per game in her teams’ losses and 28.5 points per game in their wins. She has hit the 30+ point mark five times this season including three times in the last two weeks dropping 31 vs Mater Academy on January 11, 34 points vs Southridge on January 18, and going for 34 again vs Coral Shores on January 24th! Michael Wholey is the lead scout for Florida Prep Girls Hoop Florida and a former division one Assistant Coach at American University, University of Memphis, and Georgia Tech. Wholey and the rest of the Prep Girls Hoop staff, seek to cover the entire state of player, keeping subscribers up to date with player evaluations, recruiting info, and statewide news. Our audience often supplies us with some of our best information. If you have any information on players, teams, or statewide news in the state of Florida, emailing Michael Wholey at WholeyPrepHoops@gmail.com or DM him through Twitter or Instagram @WholeyPrepHoops.
