Player of the Game:
Orlagh Gormley Orlagh Gormley 5'6" | PG Dexter Southfield | 2024 State New E – North Quincy – 5’6’’ – PG – ’24
Gormley continued her scorching hot start to the winter, pouring in another 20+ point outing. She put her fingerprints on the game early by scoring 11 of the teams’ first-quarter points and totaling 19 for the first half. Gormley was dominant on offense, showing off her floater package, transition playmaking, and even knocking down three-pointers. Defensively she was tremendous and forced many turnovers with her relentless ball-hawking. Gormley finished the game with 24 points and could’ve eclipsed the 30+ plateau but deferred to her teammates in the second half. Gormley’s facilitation and unselfishness helped expand North Quincy’s lead and put the game away. Gormley is a stat-stuffing machine, and every night is on triple-double watch.
North Quincy Standouts:
Ava Bryan Ava Bryan SG North Quincy | 2024 State New E – SG/SF – ’24
Bryan had an effective second half and was the beneficiary of Orlagh Gormley Orlagh Gormley 5'6" | PG Dexter Southfield | 2024 State New E ’s penetration kick-outs. She finished second on the team with 13 points, with most coming in the third quarter during a run that saw North Quincy separate from Hanover. Bryan can stretch the floor with mid-long range shooting and runs the floor well. I also thought Bryan made impactful defensive plays and had a couple of key steals and deflections that killed any momentum Hanover tried to build.
Autumn O’Campos Autumn O’Campos PF North Quincy | 2024 State New E – PF – ’24
O’Campos was one of the most impactful players without touching the ball. I thought her post defense against the Hanover bigs was solid, and O’Campos protected the rim well with a few rejections. She doesn’t have the size advantage inside, but I thought her effort and strength in the interior gave Hanover trouble causing them to take difficult shots at the basket.
Hanover Standouts:
Dani Tilden Dani Tilden 5'8" | CG Hanover | 2022 State New E – 5’8’’ – SG – ’22
Tilden proved to be the best shooter on the court Tuesday night with a team-high 14 points, including 4 three-pointers. She does not need much daylight to pull the trigger and has a quick, confident release. Her high arching jump shot is a thing of beauty, and she is extremely dangerous in transition. Tilden did a good job leaking out on the break and spotting up and took advantage of North Quincy struggling to locate her behind the three-point line.
McKalah Gaine McKalah Gaine 5'8" | SF Hanover | 2022 State New E – SF – ’22
Gaine played well on both sides of the ball, finishing with 13 points, and was Hanover’s best defender Tuesday night. Gaine isn’t the tallest player at her position, yet she can do damage on the block. Gaine’s footwork, upper body strength, and finishing ability led to most of her field goals. Defensively, Gaine was a force, especially in the second half with her quick hands and aggressive shot contests. She was a significant reason North Quincy was out of rhythm for periods in the final two quarters.
Marykate Flynn Marykate Flynn 6'0" | PF Hanover | 2024 State New E – 6’1’’ – PF – ’24
I have been high on Flynn since I first saw her over the summer, and she proved Tuesday night why her ceiling is so high. Her 8 points were impressive because of how she attained them. One field goal was a high post rip to the middle and a strong basket finish. Another bucket was on the block where Flynn showed good footwork, fakes, and off-hand use. The last field goal was off an offensive put-back. She also displayed a confident free-throw shooting touch. Flynn can protect the rim, is comfortable handling the ball and pushing the ball in transition. Flynn’s stock is way up after her performance.
