Mead made the trip 15 minutes south to face off with Ferris in Greater Spokane League (GSL) competition. Mead entered the contest undefeated and Ferris with just two losses to their 8 wins. The game featured two of the better GSL teams, but ultimately resulted in a blowout win for the second time this season with Mead taking the 62-36 victory.
<span style="text-decoration: underline; font-size: 18pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="22332" first="Olivia" last="Moore"] provides strong scoring threat</strong></span>
2022 5’7 CG [player_tooltip player_id="22332" first="Olivia" last="Moore"] is a guard wired to score and she showed that for Mead as she dropped 24 points on 10-15 shooting. 4 out of her 10 made field goals came from the three line, but she also scored in transition and knocked down some pull-up jumpers. When Moore is knocking down her shots, Mead is a tough out.
<span style="text-decoration: underline; font-size: 18pt;"><strong>Omlin is a physical slasher</strong></span>
2023 5’10 SF [player_tooltip player_id="154282" first="Kendall" last="Omlin"] (Ferris HS) is a lefty slasher that made her mark on the game early on finishing in the paint and drawing fouls. It was not quite her usual scoring output, but you could see Mead made it a point to make things difficult for her. Omlin will be able to help a program at some level of college.
<span style="text-decoration: underline; font-size: 18pt;"><strong>Mead brings defensive intensity</strong></span>
Mead is aggressive and applies a tough man to man full court defense. 2022 5’10 SF [player_tooltip player_id="27952" first="Alicia" last="Suggs"] is a versatile defender that can also score. 2022 6’0 PF [player_tooltip player_id="185649" first="Parker" last="Brown"] (Air Force commit) provides some rebounding and rim protection. 2024 5’8 CG [player_tooltip player_id="367306" first="Teryn" last="Gardner"] scored 14 points, but she is a solid athlete that does a good job on the ball defensively.
<span style="text-decoration: underline; font-size: 18pt;"><strong>GSL is down this year</strong></span>
The GSL is the standard in girls basketball for the state of Washington, but this year is not a regular year top to bottom. While Mead is 10-0, and considered a state title contender, the GSL as a whole is not what it once was. There is a real lack of Division 1 level players when there would be 10-15+ D1 prospects across the league.
<span style="text-decoration: underline; font-size: 18pt;"><strong>Spink is a recruitable prospect for Ferris</strong></span>
2022 5’10 [player_tooltip player_id="27950" first="Kacey" last="Spink"] (Ferris HS) had a solid second half and led Ferris with 12 points for the game and she is the second player that could be recruited at some level of college.
