Continue ReadingI caught some talented players on my last trip to the Dallas area and I’ll drop multiple articles to start the opening week of the New Year but checking out my notes, I figured I’d open with the Mansfield Spring Creek Invitational and drop the senior guards that I PERSONALLY saw in action, I already dropped Jazmyne Jackson Jazmyne Jackson 5'6" | CG Braeswell | 2022 State TX (Denton Braswell) and Jasmyn Lott Jasmyn Lott 5'8" | CG Memorial | 2022 State TX (Frisco Memorial), so here ya go
Aliyah Craft Aliyah Craft 5'4" | PG Huntsville | 2022 State TX -5’7 (Huntsville)
Craft has the right last name because she’s one of the top unsigned guards in the state at her craft which is the combo. Her first step is hard to handle as she blows by defenders in the halfcourt yet her explosiveness in the open court is pretty impressive, especially when she can see the floor the length of the court but she can drop the stop and pop jumper in transition or create her shot in the set and her acrobatic finishes also stood out at the event
Taylor Dailey-5’7 (Wylie East)
Dailey is athletic, well very athletic and she can leave the defender cemented on the court with a very impressive first step yet she blows by them with either hand and finishing, with either hand but she also can drop the jumper, with a hand in her face and on the flip, her defense can be smothering as she can play “on the ball” baseline to baseline and it also helps that she plays the passing lane very well and with her sped and ballhandling, that leads to scoring opportunities
Lacey Rice-5’8 (Amarillo)
Rice was gravy in so many ways yet watching her create her shot under pressure was extremely nice. She understands how to get hers in the flow, which is huge and she doesn’t force anything but she finished powerfully off the dribble, this includes after contact and she plays the passing lane. I want to also give a special S/O to her teammate Payton Daniels-5’5 who took a hard hit and had to leave the nightcap yet her defense was instrumental in their success
Kacie Trussel-5’5 (Arlington Martin)
Trussel has what I call a deceptive first step as she uses a variety of moves to set the defender up and showing she could score off the dribble was something I caught early and she did it after the lick but she also showed the pull-up jumper from midrange and that too was effective. Her defense was nice, she also played the passing lane yet her court vision needs to be acknowledged because she saw the floor quite well
Desiree Wooten Desiree Wooten 5'9" | SG Mansfield Timberview | 2022 State TX -5’8 (Mansfield Timberview)
Wooten is heading to North Texas and the transition won’t take long because she is just so heady and competitive that she just makes those around her better, that’s when good becomes great and her playing fearlessly in a brace speaks volumes about her competitiveness as she dropped jumpers galore, scored off the dribble and basically broke the press several times by herself yet she is vocal and directed her teammates very well, setting them up for gimmes but her mid to long-rage was clicking as well
