Marnie Kahl Marnie Kahl 5'9" | CG Prairie Farm | 2023 WI | Prairie Farm | Class of 2023 | Guard/Wing/Forward | #79 Overall Prospect
Kahl had one of the quietest 31-point performances you’ll see all season long. She only needed 15 shots to get there, dominating her matchup without being selfish or dominating the ball. Her role throughout the game shifted in accordance with Frederic’s defensive strategy. She started the game as the de facto ball handler/offensive initiator, but when Frederic transitioned to a zone, Kahl transformed from point guard to power forward. Her ability to elevate and get her shot off over defenders and use her physicality to create space down low overwhelmed Frederic’s interior defense, but it was her unselfishness that made PF unstoppable in this one. Her vision and passing talent found cutters and shooters all around the perimeter, and it was a joy to watch her whip passes all over the place. The versatile class of 2023 player put on a show Tuesday night.
Lily Truchon Lily Truchon 5'11" | PG South Shore | 2023 State WI | South Shore | Class of 2023 | Guard/Wing/Forward | #45 Overall Prospect
All you need to know about Truchon’s performance against Washburn was that she flirted with a quadruple-double. The mythological stat-line attributed only to the strongest of all-around performance. Truch put up a line of 33 points-16 boards-9 assists and 7 steals while also playing lockdown paint defense. Her length and aggression made her a monster on the glass, bringing down defensive rebounds to close out defensive possessions and fighting through contact to attack the offensive boards to get easy putbacks. Her physicality and tenacity were too much for Washburn, but her most impressive offensive attribute was her passing. She showed a penchant for finding cutters under the cup and shooters over the top of the defense. Truchon was also a terrifying defender, using her length to cause havoc both on the perimeter and the interior. One of the best all-around games I’ve seen all season long.
Coryn Fromm | Kiel | Class of 2024 | Guard/Wing | Unranked
Against Kewaskum, Fromm was constantly looking for attacking opportunities, without looking wildly out of control. Kiel’s sophomore guard was relentless nonetheless. Her feints–using jab steps and shoulder shimmies–allowed her to get to the paint whenever she wanted, torturing Kewaskum’s perimeter defenders. And while she broke through the first level of defense with relative ease, Fromm showed a diverse array of finishing moves within 12 feet. Her ambidexterity played a huge role in her 26 point outburst. And her footwork allowed her to weave through multiple bodies on her way to assaulting the rim. The combination of her layup package, floaters, and short jumpers forced the defense to sag off of her, and while she was inconsistent from beyond the arc, she still hit two from downtown to push the defense away from the cup. Fromm has been a revelation for Kiel all season and looks to be a great player down the road.
Mallory Hoitink Mallory Hoitink 5'10" | SG Slinger | 2023 State WI | Slinger | Class of 2023 | Wing/Forward | #8 Overall Prospect
Hoitink put on a show in a rivalry game environment against Kettle Moraine Lutheran. Her movement shooting kept Slinger in the game as they went down ten early, and gave them the lead down the stretch. Though Slinger would leave KML with the loss, Hoitink splashed in 25 points with five three-pointers. Her ability to sell a cut and change direction befuddled the Charger’s defense, and after she opened the game hitting three threes within 5 minutes, her gravity became a major factor in the Slinger offense. That her defender wasn’t wiling to split off of her opened lanes for her teammates to exploit. And defensively, she played great individually. Physical both at the point of attack and around the rim, Hoitink’s development as a defender has turned her into an even stronger prospect.
Aliana Brown | Kenosha Tremper | Class of 2023 | Guard | Unranked
Brown put up 34 against Racine Case and showed incredible versatility in her scoring. Her handle and speed perfectly complimented her finishing ability, making her impossible to guard by pressing her. Her first step, defensive presence, and interior scoring prowess let her get to the paint easily, where she finished through contact and forced the defense into numerous mistakes. What most impressed me about her game was her ability to get to the free-throw line. She attempted 19 foul shots and converted on 15 of them, making her 34 points one of the most efficient outbursts in the state during last night’s action. She broke down her perimeter matchups with ease and once she got steamrolling downhill, Case couldn’t stop her. An incredible performance for Kenosha Tremper’s season-long stock riser.
