I may be biased, but I think North Carolina has some of the best basketball players in the country. With a strong pool of players, there are still some 2022 athletes available to take their talents to the next level. Colleges should certainly take a look at these guards.

[player_tooltip player_id="172874" first="Jacquelyn" last="DeJesse"] | 1 of 1 Prep Academy

Dejesse (pictured above) took her talents to 1 of 1 this year, and she has certainly excelled. As an excellent ball handler, she helps the team get their offenses going controlling the tempo of the game. She’s been able to slide over to shooting guard roles here, too, where she makes sure teams know her as the shooter. She’s had games where she’s hitting 5 three pointers with ease including knocking down a game winner against a tough Winston Salem Christian team. On defense, she’s a magnet for her opponent staying in their face and making it difficult for anyone to get around her.

Amiah Savage | Terry Sanford

Savage can certainly put the ball through the hoop from deep. She does well following shots to grab rebounds even on the offensive side of the ball extending plays for her team. She handles the ball well using her speed to go coast to coast on fast breaks, and she can certainly make any of her shots even with a defender closing out on her quickly.

Dunn is one of the toughest defenders in the Charlotte area constantly causing problems in the face of her opponents knocking the ball away right out of their hands, and she knows how to push it right up the court for some fast break opportunities. Offensively, she doesn’t shy away from driving hard to the basket or stepping back to knock down the shot from deep even in the face of her opponents. She can fill any role as a guard finding her open teammates, scoring the bucket, or setting up a play correctly to get an opening for someone else.

Laila Anderson | Burlington School

Anderson has been leading her team this year running the point position. She controls the tempo of the game, and she takes full advantage of every offensive possession. She can knock down shots from deep, drive hard through the paint herself, or find her open teammates for their own shots. She doesn’t back away from opponents on defense knocking the ball away and grabbing steals.

Mary Holland Waters | Charlotte Country Day

Waters has emerged as a great three point shooter knocking down shots with ease as she knows how to find the gaps to put up her shot. Her length causes problems on defense knowing how to knock away passes derailing her opponents. Her ability to handle the ball up the court off of these steals is great to watch as she scores easily in transition.
